The 2101 is definitely a cool and powerful effects box. It was the last one digitech made before they started "dumming down" the interfaces. So, while it's a bit trickier to program, you have a lot more control over your sounds. $1200 is a bit much for a used one (it wasn't much more than that new!). I've seen used ones for around $500 before, but that was without the artist chip in it (which is really cool, since it lets the pitch shifter act as an inteligent harmonizer), but the artist upgrade new was only around $200. First of all, merry Christmas or happy Hannukah to you all. I just listened to Savatage's Dead Winter Dead again and had to tell you all that I think this has become my favorite Savatage album. I only own all of the albums with Zak on vocals and Streets, but I think none of those top the emotions on DWD. The story is so awesome that I think they should make a movie for it. Shivers kept going down my spine throughout the whole album. The only other Savatage song that has that effect on me is All That I Bleed (and maybe Believe). Alright, enough of this stuff for which most of you won't care. Another thing, I recently got the new cd by DC Cooper's new band, Silent Force. The album is called The Empire of Future. It is awesome. The style is in the vein of Symphony X and Angra's Fireworks, although with less classical influences and less technical, and with Helloweenesque guitar solos here and there. It's definitely somewhere in the power metal genre, IMO. If you like DC's vocals, you're going to love this album. He sounds as good as ever and the melodies and harmonies are awesome. The musicianship is very good. Get it if you can. I got mine at MoreMetal.com. Alexis ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Dec 2000 13:38:31 -0500 From: "Carlos A. Message-ID: The subject of the intelligence of DT (or prog in general) fans is kinda pointless to debate. I mean, yeah, most DT/prog fans I know are pretty smart and open minded, but I know some pretty stupid kids that listen to DT as well. Musical prefference does NOT usually determine how smart the listener is (regardless of what we DT fans would like to think ;-). For example: most people see classical music as "intellectial music." But the simple commoner back in the 18th century enjoyed Mozart just as much as the intellectual. Henry Rollins is incredibly smart (if you ever hear him in an interview or read anything he's written you'd see that), but someone basing intelligence on musical prefference might think not because he sings in a hardcore band. I think its just society. What with the media and eMpTyV shoving "simple" music down everyones throats, and most people accepting it mainly (I think) because they don't know what else is out there or are too closed minded to look. Its easy then, for us to label the Blink 182 or Matchbox 20 fans as dumb. In the other direction...we DT fans have decided to look elsewhere for our music, and found bands that are more complex in nature. Again, easy for us to put ourselves on a pedistal. Even easier for those jazz or classical snobs, who see us metal/rock fans as inferior intellectually. I just say screw it; listen to whatever does it for you. But don't make the mistake of associating someones musical prefferences with their intelligence, because even though they might be true somewhat, there are many glaring examples that proove otherwise. Which is interesting: it proves that I don't dismiss bands just cuz they're radio friendly. I pretty much leave the dial on K-ROCK and yes, most of what I hear appears to be crap, and I tend not to give the benefit of trying to penetrate that, just in case there's something there. I don't have the energy. But even so, if it's a decent band or song, then I won't have to - they'll eventually get through my little filter. Incubus is one such band. Godsmack isn't bad either. hate papa roach, hate perfect circle(and yes I love tool!). I don't know if they play it everywhere, but one of the reasons i like incubus is the cool acoustic version they have of that "combustion" song. it's impressive. -josh ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Dec 2000 11:54:38 +1100 From: "Paul Tadday" To: Subject: 6:00 on a Christmas Morning...... I love it to death. I had a Palm V for about 18 months and my iPaq is worlds better. For starters you can check out www.pocketpc.com. There's all kinds of information and programs there. You can also hit your favorite downloads sites like www.zdnet.com and www.shareware.com for programs. Depending on when it was bought, your cousin may be part of a class action lawsuit. Here's the URL, http://www.hp.com/jornada/products/newsroom/others/notice_proposal.html. There are several very good Pocket PC based newsgroups on Usenet. If you don't have a Usenet server at your ISP, there are some good groups on MS's public newsgroup server, msnews.microsoft.com. Feel free to contact me offline if you have any other questions. tk Todd O. Klindt, MCSE email_address_removed "Remember, the government doesn't create one dollar.
