I don't even get this much spam in my Hotmail account. Perhaps changing the list address will help. Those still active readers should be able to find the address easily enough through dreamtheater.net or the UACM newsletter. Just a though. Message-ID: Greetings friends, I need quick advice from classical players if you're out there. For the first time, last night my nails became so flimsy that they tear when I pluck the strings. I need a quick fix as my ury is tomorrow. Please send suggestions. I would be very appreciative. Be well. Matt B "Cover my eyes and tell me/Am I really blind?" Not and expert on this but I believe DTS is more discreet than DD. Higher highs and Lower lows. The compression is different, DTS isn't compressed as much. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. -chris ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Dec 2000 22:41:38 -0700 From: "Korg Ecksthrey" To: Subject: Re: *HELP* Personal classical guitar crisis! I've heard that they actually work. And I remember w00t telling me that Billy McLaughlin superglues fake fingernails cut out from ping-pong balls to make the ol' fake fingernail thing work. I've never actually tried either myself, but that's my 2 cents. :) -- KorgX3 pictures the scenario of a blind guy trying to buy a feminine manicure product at the supermarket. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Dec 2000 02:21:12 -0800 From: Dyne To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Re: YTSEJAM digest 5698 Message-ID: robert wrote: i just thought i would try something to get all of the lurkers (like me) out and talking, why doesn't everyone tell everyone else what their favorite thing about dream theater is. -robert __________________________________________________ good question! its questions like those that put a lot of us on the list in the first place...questions about the super group Dream Theater. when i first heard DT it was on a compilation disk called hard music. it was their "breakthrough" hit, pull me under (shortened version). it stood apart totally from the rest of the album which included groups like stone temple pilots, danzig, skid row, motley crew etc!? no wonder eh? from the intro of PMU to the end it was so nicely refreshing to hear such a different style of metal from the rest of the album. i picked up images and words the next couple of days. It was only great the first time round and then it totally grew on me. it owned me. the next disk i picked up was awake...thats where my fave DT "thing" comes along. it was a song called erotomania. so there i was just listening to songs that i found o.k when the track came to the end climactics (is that even a word?) of erotomania and then....god, i was in some kind of audio heaven. the drums, percussion, timing, shredding, and even myungs base placement...was quite simply "the best f*ck!n thing ive ever heard in my life!! ya, that end sequence blew me away, it shouldve been illegal. i kept rewinding that whole part and playing it for people. and im not even some obsessed fan!? i get bored of listening to a lot of music but i dont think i can ever play that sequence out. "it came out of nowhere and kicked my ass." and there u have it..."it came out of nowhere and kicked my ass!" thats what i love about DT. theres a lot of groups that have momnents that just show up and rule. but with DT, when they do it, they do chicken right! thank you ...and im spent ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Dec 2000 11:18:26 -0000 From: "Jarno Tuomainen" To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Re: DVD - DTS Message-ID: >I've got a question, what's the difference (if any) between 5.1, DTS and >Dolby Digital? > >-Dan. 5.1 is the channel format, meaning 5 channels plus a LFE (Low Frequency Effects) channel (=subwoofer). Currently the number of discreet channels can vary from 1.0 to 7.1. Dolby Digital and DTS (Digital Theater System) are sound formats. Usually DTS is encoded with a higher bitrate (f.ex. 754Kbps or ) than Dolby Digital (f.ex. 384Kbps). More information can be found at www.dolby.com and www.dts-online.com. I surely hope that we'll get either 5.1 or 5.0 format with the DVD (and I'm not talking about five mono channels here). I don't know how many channels are being played from the speakers at the concert, but several channels and a good mix really help recreating the aural experience (which is what everyone wants, on top of a reference quality anamorphic picture, of course). _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web.
