No no no, Kirby's MOTHER just got married :) She just had to deal with all the wedding details and stuff, so she's been busy lately. ------------------------------------------------- Andrew Coutermarsh email_address_removed http://cout.dhs.org/ Cloak on IRC ICQ: 2513441 ------------------------------------------------- Once I wept for I had no shoes, and then I met a man who had no feet. TSO played at an old man's club in Harrisburg, PA. The place is called the Zembo Temple. The leader old man is called the "Most Illustrious Potatantate" - i have no idea what that means. They all wear these bucket-type hats with tassels on them. I think they drive around in those little yellow cars too. The Temple was so odd, it was a cross between a medieval castle and the India exhibit at epcot. The venue actually held about 3,000 people (my estimate). Anyway, once the show started it didn't matter where it was. The energy coming off the stage was amazing. They played for about two hours. The east coast TSO has more of the original members in it. But John Oliva was not one of them, kind of disappointing. Chris Caffery was there, he seemed to assume the position of leader of the band, did all the talking to the crowd, ect. Bob Kinkle, Jeff Plate (captain ridged drummer) were there. Alex Skolnick was there too (played guitar on Savatage, Handful of Rain). After the show they signed autographs and chatted with us fans. It was cool talking to some of them. I had my DT Met. 2000 shirt on, a bunch of them made comments about DT, my favorite was "whoa, those guys are scarey." The crowd was so diverse, There were people dressed up like they were going to see the president and others like me were sporting jeans and tee-shirts. There were 90 year old women and 5 year old kids. Go see this show if you can! -Tim Detman "Least Illustrious Potantate" ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Dec 2000 14:24:56 -0500 From: Dan Costello To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Rosie's trip around the sun Message-ID: >Nah, cuz Rosie O'Donnell will be there and I, too, would eject myself into >the vacuum of space before setting foot within 150 miles of her. It saved me the expense of yet another trip across the channel to see 'em and it was a good sign that that there was some demand for them in the UK. It would have been nice to see them playing a larger venue than the Underworld, but as Singer Timo Kotipelto admitted, they half-expected to be playing to an audience of 50 people. In fact the venue was sold-out, with people queuing outside for the chance of entry, so obviously there are many secret Stratovarius fans in the capital (even if a large number appeared to be from Scandinavia or from Aouth America). After rising London Power-metal band Dragonheart had played a set that was appreciated by the audience, the lights went down and the strains of 'Finlandia' came over the PA. Huge cheers greeted the band as they hit the stage and launched into 'Hunting High and Low' - accompanied by a large portion of the audience. Though most of the material was culled from their latest opus 'Infinite', they reached back in time to play the stunning 'Kiss of Judas' from 'Visions' and 2 tunes from 4th Dimension - the fantastic 'Twilight Symphony' and the popular 'Against the Wind'. It was great to see these great musicians at such close quarters - Jari Kainulainen plays a thundering bass, Jorg Michael is a human metronome and beats the hell out of every drum and cymbal in his kit, Jens Johansson is ... well Jens - the clown with a legendary capacity for alcohol and one of progs finest keyboardists, Timo Tolkki plays as fast and as melodic as any guitarist out there and Timo Kotipelto is the focal point and a damn fine vocalist to boot. Despite my fears about the venue, the mix is good and Kotipelto's vocals are tip top. Its then back to Infinite for 'A Million Light Years away' - with the crowd once again contributing vocals for the chorus, then the band step up another gear to deliver the blistering 'Speed of Light'. This is then topped by the epic title track 'Infinite' - as fine a song as they have ever written and then a further speed-fest 'Father Time' closes out the set, which seems all too short. After a mere 10 tunes, the crowd are clearly in no mood to leave and hang around in expectation of at least a few more tunes. Once again the band demonstrate their range, delivering 'SOS', the beautiful ballad 'Forever' and then the speedy 'Paradise' with the crowd singing their hearts out to all of the choruses. All too quickly the band leave the stage again and those of us who still have a voice left cheer for the band to return once more. Eventually Kotipelto and Johansson return and invite the crowd to shout loud enough to satisfy Jens, the human soundometer. Our huge cheers do the trick and the remainder of the band return to play the crowd favorite 'Black Diamond' before they take their final bow, after the crowd has counted to 4 in Swedish!!! The gig was definitely a triumph for the band, who must have been pleased with the reaction of the audience. The crowd certainly enjoyed themselves and the sweat dripping from the ceiling was ample evidence that this was the case. Hopefully they will pay the UK another visit in the near future. I can't wait.
