Message-ID: Hi gang - Thanx to Dr. Teeth for posting a link for some PoS MP3's in the previous digest. I've heard a little of their stuff before, and truth be told I haven't been all that impressed based on the little I've heard. So, I'll be giving them another shot when I get home from work. While on the subject of MP3's, can anyone point me in a direction where I can find some MP3's of the latest SymphX album (besides Napster)? I keep trying to give these guys a shot, and they still haven't "hit" me yet, which is weird because I'm a huge Stratovarius fan. Ah well... I'd really like to give a listen to some of their latest album. Thanks in advance... Matt T. NP: Bruce Dickinson "Accident Of Birth"... DAMN it feels good to listen to this CD again. The Limited Edition version has a black cardboard sleeve around it, with a (smaller) cover-picture on the front, and it says "Limited Edition" at the bottom. I recommend that anybody who wants the Limited Edition go to www.lasercd.com , and order while there are still some left (He has them for a measley $15). There is alot of extra stuff on the 2nd disc, and it's definitely worth it. Just to run down the extras really quick.... 1. Beyond the Mirror (bonus track from OHBTCL) 2. Never Learn to Fly (bonus track from Entropia) 3. Timeweaver's Tale (bonus track from OHBTLC) 4. A lot of it is ballady-type music. There are some neat grooves in it, but mostly it's more new-agey type music than it is progressive shredding or anything like that. A lot of it is John on his acoustic guitar with Jordan playing piano. The styles vary from Latin, to heavier-type bluesy, to plain old smooth ballads. > Or is it just the good ol' Ytse-praisings on ANYTHING coming out of > the DT gods? :) Well, one thing about this performance that is for sure, it's great stuff. Regardless of who wrote this music, some of it not only made feel so emotionally full, but it inspired me to write my own music, which is not something that many musical performances can do. > p.s. pssst, now this is a time when Napster and mp3s come like a nice > tool to find these things out. :) muahaha If people can respect the wishes of John and Jordan, you won't even be able to find this on Napster. Hell, I'm sure there are some people who don't care about it and will distribute it anyway, but for the most part I hope people will not. Even though I have this boot (and I'm keeping it, dammit, even though I'm buying the album), there is no way you could get me to distribute it. Still, good quality > for they style it is, and worth checking out if this description doesn't > make you gag. They are nothing remotely neo-classical, or prog. I'd describe them as euro-power metal, similar in style to bands like Stratovarius. Yes they use keyboards, but that dosen't make them prog, they shred a bit on the guitars, but certainly not neo-classical style a la Symphony X or Yngwie. Lots of fast songs, not many mid tempo and the odd ballad throw in. I'd recommend 'Return To Heaven Denied' as a good starting point. Bottom line one of the better euro power metal bands around, though their new album 'Sons Of Thunder' is a little disappointing. graham ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Nov 2000 07:56:41 +0100 From: =?iso-8859-1?Q?Bj=F8rnar?= Bevolden To: "ytsejam@torchsong.com" Subject: Re: bands I'd like to check out Message-ID: Hello!
