The last 3 drum clinics I've been to when Mike Portnoy comes through Dallas were FREE. -----Original Message----- ]From: Dreamst8 [mailto:email_address_removed Sent: Monday, November 13, 2000 11:58 PM To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: [themirror] PASIC 2000 Drum Clinic Well thanks to some great extra footwork at the Guitar Center in Arlington, we found out that the tickets for PASIC are only available where the show is being held, at the Hyatt (Reunion Tower Addition), and you must register to get them. Registration is starting Wednesday morning. No tickets will be sold anywhere except the Hyatt. The tickets that are sold at the registration are 70 bucks, not bad if seats for the Drum Clinic are reasonable and close. Thanks Jan-Michael for pointing me in a decent direction! ----- Original Message ----- ]From: "Jan-Michael" To: Sent: Sunday, November 12, 2000 6:19 PM Subject: RE: [themirror] PASIC 2000 Drum Clinic > I almost forgot about that! They update catalogs every other day or so, and it's likely it'll pop up sometime soon. I paid $9 for my copy a few months ago at Gemm and know of someone who found it within last month in the same place for $8. joe ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000 12:04:42 -0800 From: Mark Peters To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Re: DT's new album Message-ID: Brian Larkin wrote: >DTC: How about some speculations on the next album? Message-ID: Thus far i think we can agree that, with the exception of some of the FII tracks, Dream Theater have matured with each album. Some of this may be due to the length of time between albums, but even an untrained ear can tell the difference between WDADU vs. IAW or IAW vs. Awake. Dream Theater have not yet hit a wall where they release consecutive albums that sound very similar [see Rush between MP and RTB]. We all also mature as musicians. I, being a guitarist, went from Floyd and Zeppelin to Rush to Dream Theater to Steve Vai -- and now I'm into Al DiMeola, Allan Holdsworth and such. Now I'll get to the wishlist... For James: I found his singing on the last two albums to be superior to the previous ones. Trial of Tears, LITS, and virtually all of SFAM were well written vocal parts with taste. Songs like TTT and sections of LTL make my ears sad. James is on the right path. For Portnoy: I realize it is part of his style, but lay off the fricken 16th notes on double bass! There are more creative things that can be done, Mike might do them, but the main thing that ever sticks out when I hear him play is one-ee-and-uh two-ee-and-uh. Even when I saw him play on his last clinic tour I got rather bored. Perhaps I'm just being harsh in comparing Mike to Bozzio, who records solo drums and with a trio? I have noticed some cool cymbal work from Mike on the last album. For Petrucci: I had hoped that when he made the switch from Ibanez to Music Man that his overall tone might make a change as well. John has some of the coolest tones around, especially his delay and wah. However, he also has a very synthetic guitar tone at times. The guitar is where the tone lies, not in 2500$ worth of rack mounted processors (granted I have never tried them). His playng is still phenomenal, though I'd like to see some more chordal stuff (last track on LTE2). Next to Vai, John is still da man! For Jordan: Keep doing what you just did! John Myung: Turn up the bass and lay down some grooves, the band needs it badly! LITS has a bitchin' groove when the lyrics kick in. If Myung stays boxed in playing unison lines with John and 16's with Mike on the next album, DT will be seeing less of my CD player. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000 23:45:19 +0100 From: "Simon Krogh" To: Subject: new 3DDT pic (at last!) So now, after having finished school I thought I'd give it another go. This resulted in the 12th pic in the series. Check it out!
