I think it was a little bit under a half page size. Oh, and my copy skips as well, at least on the only cd player I've played it. Also, get the new Kamelot live, it kicks ass. Bye. OK - first off, having endured London Transport Nightmare - you know five buses go past one after the other in the other direction none going your way for forty minutes! So I missed meeting Graham B, Alvin and co. - sorry guys! So the show itself - we'll, Porcupine Tree went on at 1910 (pretty damn good as the doors were officially at 1930!) - only caught the last ten minutes but I was quite impressed by them and might go and see them in May. They had a big projection screen behind MP's kit and two plasma screens left and right showing new graphics (not the live action footage as before), and (IMHO) rather tacky key words during songs e.g. Gather ye Rosebuds in ACOS, and someone live mixing the feeds from the cameras on MP's kit, JP's mic stand, JM's monitor, and the edge of JR's keyboard (these were cool!). We were treated to various video clips before DT - Clockwork Orange, Reservior Dogs ect, and apparently (I missed this) a guy taking a dump - in close up! DT hit the stage at 2025 and opened with Met 1 followed by Overture 1928 and Strange Déjà vu (that's probably all the song titles you'll get out of me I'm afraid - crap I know!). I think then the 7 string came out and we got lots of heavy shit off AWAKE (Caught in a Web and Lie) and FII (New Millennium, Just let me Breathe, Burning My Soul), then a medley of lots of stuff - I'm talking here of DT just showing off, moving effortlessly through about ten tracks in about five minutes (I'm not kidding!) Could well have got a solo at this point. JR did his hyper classical thing, followed by Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (I kid you not!) - extended to jazz/ska/reggae style! Then the electronica thing he always does. JP solo started with a JR duet (I'm guessing something they did at their show earlier this year) moved into full shred mode (no bumblebee or amazing grace) then into Master of Puppets! No MP solo! In fact, I got the impression MP was not into the show until about half way through. We got treated to Erotomania followed by Voices probably some other stuff as well, before doing a cover of Whole Lotta Love and finishing with Learning to Live (complete). There was the (obligatory) encore pause before they came out to do ACOS (worth the price of admission alone) which included JR getting in the ragtime bit from DOE and everyone doing the Simpsons theme tune about three minutes from the end (complete with JP's guitar tech coming on with a Bart mask on!). And that was it - all over at 2300. A few other notes - James was on form - the best I've heard him live. JP was well animated - stomping around and throwing some serious poses - so too was JR. JM was his usual self and so was his sound (couldn't hear him really - no surprises there then! In fact the sound was not that good JR's keyboard got squelched badly). Some clown guy came on during Met I (I think) and judging by especially James' expression it was not expected. Oh, and after JP's tech coming on and operating has pedal for the wah section in one of the solos, right at the end all the techs took over and finished off the last chord of ACOS! Well, that's my notes on the event (sorry about the vagueness of titles of tracks and running order - I guess I was just too overwhelmed by it all) Just one question - what the hell are they going to come up with next? It's a story about a local record store and they have a picture of one of the owners wearing a Transatlantic t-shirt. It's a pretty good article about The Music Arcade in Westbury, NY and the other photo is a shot of their progressive rock/metal section. You can also find the article online at http://www.nytoday.com/scripts/editorial.dll?fromspage=cg/Neighborhoods/Areas/LongIsland.htm&categoryid=&bfromind=1092&eeid=3279006&eetype=article&render=y&ck=&userid=268378248&userpw=.&uh=268378248,2,&ver=2.11 but they don't have the pictures online :( Anyway, I've been going to this store for years, as well as some other jammers (Adam Perkowsky, D-Man...) and they have a great selection of progrock and progmetal. New and used. I was there the other night and they had the Symphony X playing (didn't notice if it skipped, though). Any jammers anywhere near Long Island would be advised to check this store out. The prog guy in the article (Dave) was manager for years and is now co-owner, so the prog selection should get even better. Andy PS- I assume the Long Island section is only a local section, so keep that in mind if you try to find the story in print. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Oct 2000 10:39:18 +0200 From: welihozkiy To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: no skips Message-ID: <39F3F936.CF960956@dust.de> Ahh, Bonus my friends.
