Canadian Tragedy, our campaign to get Canadian promoters to wake up and smell the Ytsejam is now entering its last 6 days of activity. I have not polluted the mailing list with our stuff a lot so I'm taking this one last Opportunity to let you know about our efforts. I will not be giving you all the details of the thing. If you really are interested, you should follow the link in my .sig and read our news section. But, on the off chance that you are somebody who would actually go to a Canadian show, and have not had the chance of signing the online petition, you will be able to do so on our website and I urge you to do so NOW, before the petition closes down on August 25th. Scheduling constraints of OFB are telling me that complete versions of the petitions (Online, paper, stats etc...) should go out to promoters at the latest on August 28th. I must emphasize that some northern US states have been overlooked on both legs of this tour and that, if a Canadian tour does happen, some Canadian cities might just be the closest DT will come to you on this tour. As an added bonus, your US dollar is worth 1.5 its original value in Canada. Anyways, I'm done rambling here. If you want to help the cause, and would be willing to cross the border to see DT in all their glory, you now have 6 days left to sign the petition. Take care all, and hope to see you at a Canadian venue! First he unfroze the gravity rocket on the rover vehicle saving the American protagonist's ass (Ben Affleck), then he fixed the American super shuttle by beating on some gear with a large wrench enabling the engines to fire and everyone to get away safely :-) BTW Ivan your nick "KIL" is strangely ironic to me ;-) I agree with you that joking about the fallen sailors is in very poor taste, but please don't take that as anything more than it is - bad taste. I remember when the American space shuttle exploded shortly after takeoff and all the astronauts on board where vaporized instantly, the very next day people were making jokes! Q: What kind of wood doesn't float? A: Natalie Wood! Anyone remember that one? I can't believe that Americans are the only people who show a dark, morbid, sick sense of humor. Bruce is something else. He occasionally lives in Hailey, Idaho which it only about 60 miles north of me, but one day I got a flat tire on the way to work and he just showed up out of nowhere and used his magical typhoon breath to not only repair my tire, but fly me to work so I wouldn't be late. Second of all, I don't know if there are any fellow Kansans on this list, but the Hays News today had an article about a theater in Russell that had been shut down, but is now being reopened. The name? Dream Theater, of course! In case you cared, now you know. Progressive rock/metal has a very interesting effect on the mind... SPOILER SPOILER LA LA LA LA LA I won't bore everybody to death with the details, so I'll make it simple, sweet, and short, and easy for D-Man to ignore :) HEY! I SAID SPOILER GODDAMN IT! Web theater was right in downtown Phoenix, next to the beautiful Arizona Center on Van Buren. The exterior was a bright pink Greek revival, but the paint looked new, so hopes were high that it wasn't another Mason Jar (7' high ceiling, no lights, and a band within arm's length). Thankfully, it wasn't, and the seats were taken out of the auditorium so everybody with a General Admission ticket was given just that...free reign of wherever they wanted to stand. Then Spock's Beard came on. Earlier in the year, I had downloaded an old mp3 or two of these guys, and I quickly judged them to be "tight musicians, but a band I couldn't get into." Maaaaaaaaaaan was I wrong. The whole band came out with a positively super charged energy and BLEW ME AWAY! I'm definitely checking out their album catalogue :) A MUCH much much much much much much much MUCH better touring band than Full on the Mouth! Spock's rules! Anybody who can play a keyboard by bashing their head against the keys (Ryo) is awesome in my books ;) HEY! WHEN I TYPE "SPOILER" I FRICKIN' MEAN IT, BUDDY! After the stage monkeys were done setting up the stage, Dream Theater jumped out of the side curtains and the whole building went nuts. There were some completely psychotic fans, standing RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. Metropolis 1 starts up and these guys are jumping up and down and screaming at each other like a bunch of cavemen who figured out what fire was. It reminded me of myself when I first saw DT :) *sniff* Aw, the good times, the good times. This show was even better than the last two I saw...by far! The whole band was tight, I think Spock's energetic stage presence rubbed off on DT because they were all over the place! Petrucci strutted down to the left side of the stage, ran to the right side, cut down the middle, and made me cry like the little bitch guitarist I am. Myung was scarier than ever...I think he's been strength training his fingers or putting them on a diet of cocain-laced creatine because...well...dammit. The security was so tight I regret not owning a handheld camcorder and recording it all :) HEY! LOOK BEHIND YOU! IT'S A SPOILER! Okay, here's what I remember of the set list...(the security guy at the stage said we weren't allowed to get anything left on the stage, not even the setlist...a real shame too, I was going to go up there and grab Petrucci's stack) So here goes a set list off the top of my head, forgive me if it turns out that I forgot anything and it's out of order. It was a 2.5 hour set for god's sakes :) Metropolis Uno Overture 1928 Strange Deja Vu Fatal Tragedy Home The Dance of Eternity The Spirit Carries On Mirror/Lie Under a Glass Moon Just Let Me Breathe Another Day Erotomania Voices A solo from "An Evening with Rudess and Petrucci" Caught in A New Millennium Learning to Live, Mon! Of course, there were a few muso wanderings (thankfully...who's gonna bitch about Dream Theater improvising? :) ) They did a lot of weird shit to their songs, but it was very enjoyable and very funny. Brush your teeth before you go to the show, Portnoy's gonna be taking a picture of the crowd right in the middle of the show :) HEY! DID I SAY SPILLER! NO! I TYPED ---SPOILERS--- SOLDIER!!! Encore was A Change of Seasons ;) Whoops, maybe it wasn't such a short email after all.
