It rocked even more b/c I managed to sneak my new MiniDisc recorder in and get a decent boot of the show (in mono). I may or may not distribute it in mp3 format given that there are much better boots out there from the main M2K tour. I used a Sharp MD-MT15 recorder with a Sony ECM-T6 mono condenser mic (powered by a small lithium battery), and I want to get a better stereo mic setup for future DT concerts and a quickly approaching In Flames concert. My question is, can I get a decent rig that is 1) stereo, 2) impervious to *ridiculously* loud inputs (like a Swedish Melodic Death Metal concert) and 3) relatively cheap, say about $100? I'd like to avoid getting one of those separate 9V battery modules even tho they solve issue #2, because they are damn expensive and not very stealthy. Ideally, I'd like something like I have now, except in a stereo version. My current mic is small, held up great against the blasting of the Electric Factory's house amps (probably due to the battery) and was cheap- only $15! Can I record a metal concert without a battery module and realistically expect to avoid distortion? Anyone have a good setup that they'd like to recommend, even if it isn't exactly what I'm looking for? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot! To summarize: un-fucking-believable! :-) IMO, this is going to go down for me as one of the most intense and incredible shows I've ever seen. The thought that a band like Maiden can sell out MSG in 2 hours in this day and age is still mind-blowing to me. They didn't disappoint the rabid crowd, either. Halford started things off by playing a few tunes from his new album. They sounded to me much like something you'd have heard on one of his Fight albums. Pretty straight forward, not spectacular, but solid. I think he even mixed in a Fight song (Into The Pit? Something like that anyway...) into the set. But, it was when they busted into The Hellion & Electric Eye when all hell broke loose. :-) It didn't let up either... Halford followed that up with 3 other Priest tunes in succession to close his set out: Riding On The Wind, Breaking The Law, & Tyrant! Fucking amazing! The crowd was in a froth by now, and it was only just beginning... Queensryche (should have been DT!!! but anyway...) followed with an impressive set and received a warm reception, but it was tough to follow Halford's set. The Ryche were certainly more enjoyable to me than they were in Boston on the Q2K tour. The band was tight, seemed to be enjoying themselves, and Tate sounded great. The setlist: Intro, Revolution Calling, Empire, Falling Down, Speak, Damaged, Walk In the Shadows, QUEEN OF THE REICH!!!, Take Hold Of The Flame, Eyes Of a Stranger. A very solid set indeed, obviously highlighted by the return of QOTR for the first time in YEARS. Tate sang it impressively, even hitting the high notes in the chorus. Scotty Rock blistered behind the kit during this song throwing in fills all over the place despite the fact I don't think he used the double bass at all during it. But Maiden blew the roof off the joint. Amazing energy, amazing light show, amazing theatrics, amazing playing... oh yeah, and Eddie too. :-) The set was really, really good with most of the new album being played. Many of the new songs came to life in a concert setting and sounded killer live. "Sign Of The Cross" and "The Clansman" were jawdropping in concert... Blaze who?? Bruce was a lunatic pumping the crowd up every chance he got. You could tell the band was fired up feeding off the crowd energy, and vice versa. The only bummers for me... I had to leave after the first Maiden encore to catch a train back home. As I left the arena I heard the first few notes of my favorite Maiden song "Hallowed Be Thy Name" (Grrr..) Also, I wish the band would have pulled a few more old gems out to play. With the exception of Sign Of the Cross and Clansman, the older song selection was pretty predictable: Trooper, Wrathchild, 2 Minutes, Number Of The Beast, Iron Maiden, etc. But all in all, it was an amazing concert that you absolutely DON'T want to miss if it comes your way. Up The Fucking Irons!!! Laterz...
