Message-ID: I may not be sure on this, but as a huge Maiden-DP mark, I believe the only time Bruce ever recorded this song was at the Armenian Aid all-star charity show, this version smokes with Bruce, Gillan, and Paul Rodgers on vocals and Iommi, Blackmore, May, and Gilmour on guitars at various points. (they trade off) I could be wrong, but this may be your version. If it is it is not DT, most likely, as this was done around 90-91. Hope this helps. I downloaded it from Napster (... and yes, I am still buying it the first day it comes out). Seems to be a little less progressive, a lot dryer in terms of production, and sounds more like Engine than FW. But nonetheless, after a few listens, stills sounds promising. I'm sure I'll grow to love it just as much as the other ones. Kevin Moore has some cool new sounds on this one too. Any other impressions?? a. p.s. Btw, what's with this new "dry" sound. The Maiden album, while still their best in a while, is recorded so dry, and now FW. I miss the lush productions of the Seventh Son / Parallel (in terms of sound) days... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Jun 2000 11:01:23 -0400 From: "Greg Stafford" To: Subject: RE: tickets on sale - when? Some guy in front of us(belly to MP's drum riser, wearing a Metropolos 2000 shirt), was recording in stereo to MD(you could see the mic's clipped to both sides of his hat). Probably not the best place for sound, but you'll sure be able to hear the drums. :) Is that person on this list? Please let us know if there are any recordings floating around. We want them. They are German, and Chris Caffery of Savatage played on their first CD. This would explain the 2 guitar thing. Ptacek" To: Subject: Practicing in less time Message-ID: <001301bfdf1f$71cb6ac0$ad5afea9@madstation> I am a little concerned for the future of this wave of prog, if all the shredders here really believe that they should design their workouts around Rock Discipline. RD is a great video, especially if you're already somewhat capable and don't have the budget to get multiple videos, but I really hope very few of you make your practices something like "10 minutes of trills, 10 minutes of scale fragments, etc." There is nothing special or beautiful about these things... they're technical primers... workouts like weights, or running laps. It's necessary to do some regular work with these things in order to keep them up, but I would recommend a little experiment. Practice like this, with a metronome and mark your tempos and take notes on the difficulty of playing like this. Then, for the rest of that week, practice new things. Learn and memorize your favorite parts of songs (not necessarily DT!) and make sure that you learn something. Improvise on top of various songs... especially over things you're not used to. Start working on a new technique. Or just focus on one thing, for a whole hour session... like work solely on moving through your 3 note per string patterns up and down the neck with no pause for position shifts, if you want a specifically technical workout. Let JP be an influence, and not some kind of ideological demigod. What do you think he wants to go home and listen to, someone who sounds like a JP wannabe or someone who has picked up on something subtle from his playing, and something subtle from 30 other guys' chops, and made something new? If you're pressed for 1 hour of practice time in the first place, why would you want to use it working on things that make you blend in with far too many other players in a genre that has perhaps more aspiring musicians than fans? I think it's pretty cheap to gripe about a disabled guy writing music through the aid of electronic equipment. I mean, drums are definitely a four-limb instrument. It's very difficult to get along with one less and if it takes electronics to make up for the lost limb, so much the better. Personally, I really don't give a damn if Rick just programmed everything into a drum machine and sat at the edge of the stage for the whole show doing the one-handed clap. As long as he wasn't programming some stupid techno 4 beat sample shit. You gotta hand it to the guy for overcoming his disability. You've gotta hand it to that Becker kid most of all, though. -- KorgX3 even has to give props for Stevie Wonder. ------------------------------ End of YTSEJAM Digest 5520 **************************
