At the end of the gig Steven Wilson mentioned that after this short 3-date tour of England (and Scotland), their next dates in the UK would be as support slots. They will be playing some gigs in July, but I didn't catch the name of the band they will be supporting (Kings X - perhaps??), and then some gigs in October - as support for Dream Theater - whooah yeah!!!! Seems like DT have done the business again in choosing yet another great band to tour as support. - of course, playing support to DT will mean they'll have to cut their set down from the usual 2hrs plus - but it will be great for exposure. good work Mike! And it sounds good.....really good (i'm surprised not to have seen comments on this disc on the jam yet). But i've got a bone to pick with the packaging: i love the cover and the first page of the booklet, with London in the pseudo crosshairs (?). But who the hell was picking the pictures that made up the rest of the booklet? And where was the make up guy? Gotta say, Iron Maiden hasn't aged well....i mean, the guys, they look really really old in the pictures in the liner notes. I mean, real really old. But musically, they have aged really really well, because a first listen puts this disc easily in the second tier, maybe the best thing they've done since Powerslave.....naturally, that's open to months/years of revision, but I'm really loving this disc right now. As for the subject, i got there with an idea of grabbing something else, and wandered past the "k" section, and saw new King's X, and King Crimson pretty much side by side. Bruce DIckinson's influence must have bust out of the Brave New World disc i already had in my hands, and directed my hands, because the Kings in Crimson won (ok, awful joke, i apologize) (but I grabbed the construcktion of light, and look forward to what this slimmed down version of the band has to offer) Then again, it might have just been the ridiculous cover art on the kings x disc that pushed me the other way Partha ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 May 2000 21:25:21 -0500 From: "Rob Saky" To: email_address_removed.pl Subject: FREE INFORMATION #58B0 Message-ID: HOW TO SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASE SALES: Easily accept major credit cards right away! ******Act now and all App. & Processing fees waived***** call our (888) 363-7881 now! As a result, I am forced to resort to Shameless Self-Promotion on a Public Mailing List in order to Reestablish my position on the ********Throne of Eternal Virtuosity*********. It is with much regret, and yet also much personal satisfaction, that I post the following: My name is Brian Larkin! I am also known in my Native Country (the name of which I often have trouble spelling and pronouncing) as Mother Shabooboo. I am the best musician in the world! I have released minutes of music greater in number than the amount of Milliseconds in a Millenium, and greater in quality than Public Bathroom Toilet Paper! I can play sextuplets at 240 beats per minute on 13 different instruments! These include: guitar, electric bass, piano, banjo, french horn, tenor sax, lute, sitar, upright bass, violin, trombone, trumpet, and bagpipes. You may notice that NOT ONE of these instruments is in the percussion family (with the exception of piano, which is considered by some lesser beings to be percussive). This is because I *HATE* percussive instruments. And I *HATE* people who play them EVEN MORE! Like this Portnoy character. WHAT A WANKER! I think all percussive instruments should be thrown into a Great Big Fire and burnt to a Crisp. The remains should be Shipped Up Into Space and released to float aimlessly for eternity. I apologize for that sudden and unexpected outburst, yet I am sure most of you guitarists know what I'm talking about. Anyway. I am so holy and untouchable that I do not even have access to my own music once I have recorded it. I ask any of you out there who may have that very privelage to share it with others ... particularly this Retardo Testes fellow. Perhaps once he realizes how his Inferiority and Imperfections will forever limit his ability to even Approach my level of authority and prowess, he will fall at my feet in anguish and despair, begging my forgiveness for the Utter Blasphemy that has Infected this Worthy Mailing List like a Viral Rash of Unmatched Corrosiveness and Painfulness for the past few days. I am disappointed. I had hoped for miracles with the return of Bruce and Adrian, given the strength of Bruce's recent solo material with Adrian playing along, but sadly most of the songwriting on Brave New World is still dominated by Steve Harris and that incompetent tosser Janick Gers. There are a couple of really good songs (Nomad, Out Of The Silent Planet), a couple of truly dismal songs (Blood Brothers, Brave New World) and the remainder are merely mediocre. Standard "E-minor C D, ad nauseam" Maiden material with little to distinguish it from any of their other stuff. Yes, Bruce's vocals are a huge improvement on Blaze's attempts, but the songs just aren't anywhere near as good as they could have been. It's in their blood; they're just good at picking it up. On the same note, I don't dispute your ability to play lots of instruments. I just think you would have received a better response if you hadn't jumped in with the attitude that you were the only one in the world to play multiple instruments and that therefore comparisons to heavenly ivory-ticklers was in order. Besides which, no matter how technically proficient you are at your playing, it means nothing if you can't transfer that skill into making good music. What does your stuff sound like? I respect your wish not to give your stuff away, but can we order it from anywhere? Any Italian shops on the web? Does it sound like anything we know?
