There are a few programs out there that will do this - thus eliminating the little pop between tracks. Nero does it. CD2WAV does it. And a few others. Great idea on the trees. Well, the big problem with MP3 is that even if you manage to get a perfectly ripped wave file (or if you encode FROM a wave file with NO silence at the boundaries), you'll STILL get a blip at the end of the MP3 file. Guaranteed. The reason for this is that MP3 encodes with a weird format that REQUIRES it to be a certain file size or length based on the original file. That means that if it's not PERFECTLY the right size (we're talking in terms of BYTES, people), then it will add silence at the end of the file to make it accomodate the format. I'm not sure exactly how it works (I used to have the technical specs somewhere). Since we're using my recording of this show, I'd like to make a comment. Even though this show IS available at LitS (mad props go to Bogie and Adam for hosting it), my copy is cleaner. I thought that since Bogie had such a good recording that it wouldn't matter, but when I listened to it, I noticed that my copy had MUCH better highs and was overall just cleaner. It's not exactly perfect, though. There are some blips here and there, but I'm not sure if they're from the actual recording or from my recording software, but I do know that I tried recording the same songs that had those little blips in them over again and the blips were still there. Not to worry, however, as they do not in ANY way detract from the quality of the show, and they're only in a couple of places. ------------------------------------------------- Andrew Coutermarsh email_address_removed http://cout.dhs.org/ Cloak on IRC ICQ: 2513441 ------------------------------------------------- I like to go down to the dog pound and pretend that I've found my dog. Is there anyone who owns a 7-string who hasn't tried PMU in B at least once? And didn't it sound cool? :) Actually, I wish DT would tune down a la Home every so often. I used to think Dr. X did it until I thought about it some more and realized that Mary did kill herself. Nikki was with Dr. X when she died, Father William was already dead and there were no other major characters, so it was either Mary or someone who just broke in and killed her. ----- Original Message ----- ]From: To: Multiple recipients of list Sent: Wednesday, April 12, 2000 6:13 PM Subject: YTSEJAM digest 5428 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Apr 2000 10:27:50 -0400 From: Digital Man To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: CGT/TLev, Roseland question Message-ID: On 2000-04-12 at 15:13 -0700, ytsejam@torchsong.com truly believed: > Date: Wed, 12 Apr 2000 10:04:13 -0500 > From: "Christopher W. My keyboardist and I are leaving NY about 1 or 2 in the afternoon, hopefully get to Baltimore around 6 pm, see the show, and we're driving back that night. If we're going to get home at 5 in the morning, you can get home at 2 in the morning. :) Seriously, though, I have one album of just CGT, and one of the Robert Fripp String Quintet (CGT, Fripp, and Trey Gunn on Stick). Damn. If you're a fan of good musicianship, of any style, you owe it to yourself to check these guys out. (10 hours in a car is optional. :) And, of course, I have about a dozen albums or more with Levin on 'em. One of the tastiest bass players out there. (Side note: I used to think that TLev was all that on the Stick, until I started taking lessons with this guy named Steve Adelman. Holy crap. After two lessons, he's got me doing bass lines with my left hand and riffs, leads, fills, and chords with my right. Chords! And I'm a bassist!) Anyway, I heard a fairly authoritative rumor that Tony will be selling and signing copies of his new solo album, "Waters of Eden"(?). That alone is worth the price of admission. It gives some insight into the history of progressive rock and the connection to psychedelic rock and the hippie movement, the actual style of the music, the lyrical and visual concepts, the sociology of the genre etc. There's also a chapter explaining the awful treatment the music has received from rock critics. The only thing I could have wished for would have been some mention of progressive metal (the book was published in 97). It makes very interesting reading though and I strongly recommend it. Btw, does anyone know of any other good books concerning the same subject? Are there any books about progressive metal?
