Why do people always take bad criticism to DT in such a personal way?! Some people are going to like DT, some not, LIFE GOES ON PEOPLE. Most of those reviews made me laugh my ass off at the ignorance of the reviewer. If you take such offense at someone elses OPINIONS about your favorite band's works, then i suggest you find a life. BTW- DT is my favorite band in the world, with Opeth a close second, both of which got some bad reviews some good in that page, you dont see me complaining. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Mar 2000 12:29:05 PST From: "heather jackson" To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Birthday Message-ID: Hey I just wanted to give a birthday wish to the youngest Dream Theater fan club member, Max John Portnoy. I think the majority of people at the shows are those who have at least a couple of DT albums, not someone who heard PMU several years back and liked it but doesn't own an album. The problem is that DT has no "special" songs, really. I'm talkin' songs that they only break out occasionally - "Where Are You Now?" at the last couple of Xmas gigs in '98 is a good example. Do that shit more often. Like only play PMU occasionally, or throw Scarred or Ytsejam or Learning to Live in somewhere every few shows. But like you said, there are no "casual" listeners of DT, so we would go see them every show regardless of what they played to view and listen to the musical accuracy that is DT. (No offense to the other guys, but let's get real...) Let's not limit this on the merits of the equipment alone, or his recorded work with LTE and DT. Any of you heard his recent contribution to an album of classical works done by the great keyboardists of rock on acoustic piano? How about his score for "A Christmas Carol'? His tours of duty with bands like the Dregs? Not to mention the countless hours of work doing sessions, jingles and other loads of stuff that would fill a few volumes onto anyone's music collection! The experience that he got from being at Julliard and afterwards is at least ten years or so ahead of the other guys in the band. Let's not forget that he actually works for the company that provides him with some of the world's finest synthesizers ever made (Kurzweil). I'm not dismissing other opinions here, but please consider his entire history as a professional musician. You will see that he is most definitely no fluke! regards, Alex ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! After just returning from the show I'd have to say that it was classic Queensryche. They did mostly Empire and Operation:Mindcrime with some of Q2K in there as well. Geoff was in prime vocals as always. Never heard him sing badly yet. This being my 4th or 5th (getting old and forget these small details) I found that Geoff sounded no different when I saw them back during the Empire tour and when they did the Operation: LiveCrime. The only difference was not seeing Chris DeGarmo. Most of the sounds were the same, but there were suttle differences that were expected. Over all it's a concert worth seeing. Just for the record, Dream Theater still kicked their ass though (as expected). Hmmm, Geoff Tate sings for Dream Theater. Now wouldn't that be cool. Nothing against James at all, but it would be interesting to see what songs they'd come up with between them all. I think he's using a lot more sounds than that. Also, you have to consider that each pedal hit changes the configuration of his keyboard. Jordan does a lot of subtle things on the keyboard while he has it divided into two completely different sounds. This is very evident on the Rudess/Morgenstein Project disc. He's often using completely different sounds for each hand, and this configuration may change much more often than the "most evident" sound does.
