I was standing right by the camera, and could also see the house monitors, and let me tell you... This would be the ULTIMATE video of DT. From what I saw, it would probably make the best live video DT ever made. They are supposed to have a cybercast of the concert soon. Does anyone know a way to videotape this off the computer? Anyone have any success with this? Also, I had a chance to interview Jordan Rudess before the show. What an awesome guy! Surely, the friendliest guy in the band now. I will be making that interview available in about 1-2 weeks if anyone is interested. I got a picture of his gear on stage, and asked him ranges of questions from how DT writes songs to how he remembers his parts to personal stuff ... it was a great 45 minute interview on the one member of DT that few know about. On "Falling Into >Infinity it was only on "Just Let Me Breathe," and on >the new album I only use it for The Dance Of Eternity. The words "economical" and "truth" spring to mind here! Those are the songs where he used the 7-stringer as the MAIN guitar; there's a LOT of places where you can hear an overdubbed 7-string on both Awake and FII. Even a couple of places on SFaM, to my ear. Sorry to be picky on detail! It does seem strange how little he uses it, doesn't it? I suppose now that it's become the sound of the moment, it's not very progressive to just do the low-B riffage thing, and JP's just trying to figure out what else to do with it! >From: "gaz" >Subject: Re: Orlando show thoughts and news >This is one thing that has been bugging me for >a while now. Well, I'm not an expert, but my friend Craig is; he's a Wiccan, and takes great offence at being thought of as a Pagan. Paganism is a polydeity system, as practised by the Romans; while Wicca is a religion over 8000 years old and is nominally monodeitic. The term "pagan" has come to be erroneously applied to any pre-Judaean religion. Apaprently. John McLaughlin can use a million notes a second without sounding masturbatory, why can't Petrucci?" And also the bit about anyone who can write something as winsomely bad as AD should never be allowed to make music again - now careful before you flame him on that one, because I remember at least a couple of people on here saying much the same things on AD! To keep a long story short, my friend and I got screwed by KNAC in Los Angeles, and almost didn't make it in the HOB gig in Orlando...thank god for the guy who got dicked by like 7 friends and helped us out with tickets...especially after finding out that after a 6 hour drive (traffic sucked!) we weren't on DT's guest list...as we'd been told we were. So anyways from what I could gather from the VERY back of the venue...the show was INCREDIBLE!!! DT was in TOP form, and damn near perfect...and unlike their previous tour, they were a well oiled machine, instead of 5 really good musicians. Even James...whom I've been very critical of in the past for his serious lack of stage presence, and screechy vocals...was AWESOME! For those who were lucky enough to get close to the stage, and didn't know what was going on with the cameras...HOB simulcasts the shows to TV screens all over the venue, and also outside...so those of us who can't see a damn thing because the show is PACKED can still catch every detail of the show. I must say it was cool to see the band live, and on TV at the same time...kinda different, even though the camera work sucked...the director obviously didn't know the music, and half the time had Petrucci on camera when Jordan was soloing...this was even more evident with the Dregs whenever the violinist was soloing. I must say this was by far the BEST live show I've ever been to...sound was excellent, everything about is was just perfect (cept the guest list thingy and having to find tickets last minute). Sorry I wasn't able to catch up with any jammers at the show...maybe this summer :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Mar 2000 14:41:09 -0800 From: "Jason Gelnett" To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Voices: A tribute to Dream Theater?
