And feel the need to own one ? I really don't know why, perhaps it's part of the American culture ? gaz My Homepage The Instruments Of Random Progress http://www.ozemail.com.au/~ytsejam Reviews & Interviews http://www.renegade2K.com My Footwear http://www.ozemail.com.au/~ytsejam/livecd's.htm 'If you don't have a sense of humour or are too stupid to understand sarcasm don't complain to me, because I don't give a shit' ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 Mar 2000 19:34:25 +1100 From: mikel To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: cool guitar related jazz to check out Message-ID: For the person who asked about guitar related jazz. Heres some quick reviews of stuff you might like. John McLaughlin - best fusion guitarist (possibly best overall guitarist) no question about it. His best stuff was done back in the 70s with Mahivishnu Orchestra, Shakti and Santana, but pretty much anything of his you get is guarranteed to kick ass. Al DiMeola- Some people hate him. Others (like me) love him. Probably the fast guitarist ever. Most of his stuff has a spanish/latiny sort of vibe. Allan Holdsworth - I find it very, very, very difficult finding any of this guys stuff but what I have heard is cool. Pat Metheny - You gotta love this guy. George Benson - Lots of commercial/poppy stuff but a great guitarist. Going back into more traditional jazz youve got Wes Montgomery - a personal favourite. A unique and beautiful guitar player. Django Reinhard - awsome shredder from pre 50s. Joe Pass - this guy is incredible. he plays solo jazz guitar (chord melody) Paco de Lucia - not really jazz but Im sure youll like him anyway. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Mar 2000 00:39:18 -0800 From: "Trevor W. He also recently released an instrumental cd called Symphony No. 1. I really like it, but I'm a huge JJ fan so I could be a little biased. Trevor has 16 JJ cds. Why do Americans actually drink and smoke, unlike those damn Euros (and I mean actually *inhale* when they smoke and drink *real* alcohol). It's part of our heritage. I don't totally understand the mindset, but a big part of my country's history and founding involved a gun in some capacity or another. What I don't get is why all those damn Euros have that smug fucking superior attitude about everything when America has bailed them out of more scraps than was seen in their previous history. Just don't get it. But ah well, maybe it's part of their culture to bite the hand that protects them. Go fig! ===== *Trent If I had something funny to say, I'd say it here. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! Actually from the Americans I have met during my travels in the Navy, I've found them to have the 'we are the USA and we are bigger and better than you' attitude, more than any other nationality. Most of the Europeans I've met have been very cool, friendly relaxed and generally down to earth. gaz My Homepage The Instruments Of Random Progress http://www.ozemail.com.au/~ytsejam Reviews & Interviews http://www.renegade2K.com My Footwear http://www.ozemail.com.au/~ytsejam/livecd's.htm 'If you don't have a sense of humour or are too stupid to understand sarcasm don't complain to me, because I don't give a shit' ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 Mar 2000 05:03:09 -0600 From: Brad Plumb To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Re: You can have my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead Message-ID: At 01:54 AM 3/2/00 -0800, you wrote: > > >> I really don't know why, perhaps it's part of the >> American culture ? > >Why do Americans actually drink and smoke, unlike >those damn Euros (and I mean actually *inhale* when >they smoke and drink *real* alcohol). Actually, from my experience, it's cuz the Americans are always shoving it in their face at every opportunity and flaunting OUR superiority. There's not a day that goes by without some politician, business-man, or reporter talking about how much better we are then every other country in the world. Personally, it gets on my nerves, and I'm an American! Down with imperialism! What I cannot understand is why someone would use such a metaphor in a musical context, a review of a concert! Can you tell me why? What=B4s the sense? Provocation? My problem is that I think it really sucks, that there are many people (in= America, but also in other countries) who, when they hear that I am from Germany, think (and also often say!): "Look that fucking nazi from nazi germany!"
