No > question about that one. Yes, definitely heavily influenced by the blues. That doesn't mean they're a blues band. Calling Zep a blues band on the strength of their first couple of albums is like calling Rush a Led Zeppelin clone because of their first album. Yes, they were influenced by the blues (like every rock band is to some extent), but listen to their shows and albums later than the early 70s. Definitely a rock outfit (Kashmir, Song Remains the Same, No Quarter, Stairway?). Tons of distortion, fast power chords, not-so-bluesy lyrics. In their middle to later years they didn't write too much stuff like SIBLY or Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, I don't believe. Also bravo to Elton john for his critisism of the grammies. He's right, who's to say whats really the best? all I know is whats best for me and that is represented in my cd collection. He also hit the nail on the head again with video's and what bullshit they are. It actually premiered in my home town of Chicago in 1921 and the people were amazed. Of all of the concertos I've seen performed live, no one has dared that one. It is truly for the masters ONLY. Prokofiev was deffinitely and innovator in the piano world and I'm so glad to hear that there are people on this jam that are into such different types of music. Today I was doing my music homework in the ccommons building at school and I saw a boy in a DT SFaM tour shirts. He sat down at my table and I brought up DT and started talking about the concerts I saw and asking him about his. He took one look at the piano score I had in front of me, sneered, and told me that it is fans like me who ruin prog rock. He said that DT wasn't for people like me, but for "true" rock fans. Whatever. That was my first experience with having someone else critique my musical opinions and tastes and it was not pleasant. I told him where he could put his "true prog rock fan" status and that was that. It's great to know that some of you listen to different genres of music and for all of you who love the progressiveness of DT and othe similar bands, check out some romantic and classical composers. I don't guarantee you'll like them all, but, at least for me, some of them are as easy to get into as DT. If you truly appreciate the musicianship of DT members, I don't understand how you could not be impressed by an entire orchestra playing at breakneck speed with complete precision. Both types of music amaze me. Mine is getting really old. With my old rig, I was VERY satisfied and impressed by my Rocktron Intellifex LTD 1-space unit. This thing had PRISTINE reverbs, choruses, delays, pitch-shifting, EVERYTHING. I was contstantly amazed by the fact that I got such a great unit for $250 used (I could help you find one for this price EASILY)! It is very, very easy to use and integrate into an existing MIDI-controlled system. When I was using the Intellifex, I was using an ESP LTD MH-300 and a Fender American Standard Strat through Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier, through the Rocktron (in the FX loop of the Recto), into a Red Bear 2x12 cab with Vintage 30's, with fantastic results. I used a Lake Butler MIDI Mitigator pedal to control everything, with a Rocktron MIDI Octopus to channel-switch the Dual Recto via MIDI commands. If money is an issue, I'd go for this Rocktron. If you can afford an effects unit that runs about $1000, I'd go for the Lexicon MPX1-G2 (my personal favorite effects unit). Both are great (the Lexicon is obviously a little better, but, IMHO, not $750 better)... Now, I just have two high-end Yamaha guitars, a Line 6 AX2-212 (which takes care of everything - amp modeling, effects, cab simulation, etc.), a BOSS TU-2 stage tuner, and a Morley Bad Horsie wah. And my back absolutely LOVES me for it. That girl Brooke is exactly what is wrong with music fans these days; she got told a few times that she wouldn't like the CD, so she didn't even bother to review it. My advice to you would've been to not give anyone any warning. As for accusing DT of sounding like Third Eye Blind, where the fuck where 3EB back in '86 when DT got together? DT's sound hasn't changed radically since then (and yet it has in many ways), but I can't picture someone legitimately accusing DT of being a copycat of 3EB. Home my also be a good song to be definitive of DT. On another note, I am kind of pissed that Rush didn't make the Hall of Fame last year. I think that they are probably the most influential band ever. One of my friends is big into Floyd, and I told her that DT did some covers from them. She didn't think that Dt could pull any of them off. I sure as hell think that they did, as a matter of fact, they destroyed them. I thought that the Damage Inc. cover on the 5years video was pretty good. I am glad that they had Metropolis pt1 on there, but I wish they would have played the thorugh to the end of it. I also wish they played the whole Learning to Live. Rust in Peace is a great Megadeth cd. I am listening to it right now. I am glad to see that most people here like the same bands, while they like DT. I see more of a Rush influence in Rush than any other band.
