This is serious. Dream Theater is performing in the City of New York at the end of this month. We seriously need to start up a posse beforehand. (The show's on a Saturday, too, so no excuse for pansying out.) The only downside is that Roseland is in Midtown, where everything has the tourist surcharge added on. Here's what we need: 1) A list of who's hanging out beforehand 2) A list of cool places we can go that are at most one subway away (cause otherwise it just gets ridiculous trying to rustle a whole herd of Jammers from train to train) Who's got ideas? Since I don't live or work in Midtown, I'm not too up on what's in the area (52nd between 8th and Bway, for those in the know). Well, we pronounce it [mors], right? And in Russian it means one sort of friut drink/water ( usually made of cranberry). So when I ask somebody about Steve here, people usually tease me "Morse? This truly one of the most incredible bands to come out in the 90's. Mikael Åkerfeldt , the driving force behind this incredible band is a true genious. To quote one of the reviews from their latest album "Still Life" : "Still Life is an instant hit the first time you hear it, particularly songs like "Godhead´s Lament","Serenity Painted Death" and "Moonlapse Vertigo". The true beauty of Opeth is how they provide something for everyone. They rip out some meaty mid-paced death/black metal, dabble in progessive elegance, soothe with serene acoustic interludes, all the while remaining ultra-melodic and untouchably unique. If there ever was a band to get into, Opeth is that band. I cannot recommend Still Life enough and hope that you take my encouragement to heart and acquire a copy of your own. Just amazing". There are tons of reviews on the page...all a good read if you want to know more about opeth... http://www.opeth.com/discography/still/still_re.html Keep in mind these reviews are from their latest album... if you go to their main page and follow the discography links you can find reviews to all their cds, but i strongly recomend still life as a starting point to get to know them. *You really are missing out on an incredible band and listening experience if you dismiss them just because they use growls* oh BTW ..on this record the vocals are balanced almost 50/50 with clean melodic vocals which Mr. Åkerfeldt also adorns this record with. Once you get past the hating growl vocals point..theres no turning back with this band and trust me, you wont regret it. Without love, without truth, there can be no turning back. Without faith, without hope, there can be no peace of mind.
