I'm sorry, what was that?  What have I been doing the past two days?
Well, I'll tell you.  I've been producing THE most realistic MIDI file of
A Change of Seasons you'll ever hear.  You know what?  I suppose that DOES
mean I have a ton of free time.  But no more than you if all you've been
doing is learning guitar (or, wait, you play bass, don't you?) parts ;)

Which brings me to what I was going to post to the jam relatively soon
anyway.  I would like to enlist the help of all you guys who either have
the extra time or just have fast bandwidth and can sacrifice a minute or
three from your day.

I am making a MIDI file of ACoS, as I stated above before, and in order to
make it realistic, I have included a TON of controllers that I am not sure
will work on sound cards other than mine.  So what I'm asking is that
anybody who would like to download the file may do so, but I would like
anybody who has the time to make a recording of this MIDI file being
played on your sound card (it's relatively easy, but I'll include
instructions on my website if you need help) and upload an MP3 of that
recording to my FTP server.  For those of you with modems, it'd be a 4 meg
file, which means a considerable amount of time to upload, but for those
of you on higher-bandwidth connections it wouldn't take too much of your
time to upload it.

The files don't have to be ultra-high quality, because I don't need
quality, so an MP3 encoded at 128 Kbps or even as low as 96 or 64 Kbps
would be quite fine.

Anybody who is willing to do this, it is MUCH appreciated.  I would like
anybody who wouldn't mind doing this for me to send me a private email,
and if I get more than a few responses, I'll post a URL and my FTP server
info at a later date (this will give me more time to finish The Crimson
Sunrise, with which I am ALMOST completed).  Thanks.

In Brazil, and in other parts of the world I'd guess, the Freedom Call
EP featured two tracks of the acoustic show, Angels Cry and Never

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone can help me out.  Looking at the tour
dates, it looks like the closest DT are coming to western New York are the
Cleveland and Pittsburgh shows.  Being a college student in Fredonia, NY
(45 mins south of Buffalo), I would very much like to attend one of these
shows. :)  

So the question is: Is anyone from the western New York area going to
either of those shows, and if so, would you be able to pick up a fellow
jammer along the way ?  For anyone's info, Fredonia is exit 59 off the New
York State Thruway, ie I-90.  If anyone from Buffalo, Rochester, or any
other place in the area is going, and could possibly give me a lift, could
you please email me privately ?  I'm not yet sure that I would actually
go, but I just wanna gauge what the chances are, ya know ? :)

Yup, they played the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom in New Hampshire as a
headliner as a one-of because the first date of the ELP tour in somewhere
like Maine was cancelled.  Indeed, some of the live footage of the new MP
video was taken from there including an audience shot of me in my God Thing
shirt (shit, I feel famous !!!!).  

However, they did "headline" the Christmastime shows in December 98 - five,
I believe - in the Northeast USA so these were technically the last
headlined shows of 98.  I think some dude (we can call him "Rogie") owes me
something from one of these shows but he is a *slacker* !!

P.S. CDNOW is offering a Japanese import of NIGHTWISH'S OCEANBORN with an 
extra live track (Nightquest).  It's $32.99 and I wouldn't bother buying it, 
since on that website I mentioned, it talks about a new version of Oceanborn 
with THREE extra tracks on it! (Nightquest, A return to the Sea, and Sleeping 
Sun) This version isn't available at CDNOW, but if anybody can point us in the 
right direction of finding a copy of this limited edition CD, I'd appreciate 
it.

P.P.S. Still waiting for a reasonably priced version of Lemur Voice's 
"Division" to be made available.  *Sigh*

I can tell you a little bit about Dreams of Sanity.  I have to thank Neil
for pointing them out to me.  They have a couple of albums and I have
them both.  "Komodia" is a concept album based on Dante's Divine
Comedy.  It features TWO female lead vocalists and is a bit heavier
than their second album.  Lots-o-keys, too!  Which, IMO, is a good thing!
Well, for the second album "Masquerade" (based on The Phantom of 
the Opera), they drop to just one singer but she does a lot of overdubs,
so the same effect is achieved.  I like this one better, but it's not as 
heavy and has even MORE keys.  And not really any guitar solos to speak
of, other than one kick-ass solo in Masquerade Part I.  Also on this album
they do a kick-ass cover of Andrew Lloyd Weber's "The Phantom of the
Opera" with Tilo Wolff of Lacrimosa (who also kick much ass) taking the
part of the Phantom.  I would highly recommend both these discs but 
be forewarned that "Masquerade" doesn't have a lot of balls-and-chunk
to it.  Both are available in the States through Alta Mira:

Those 3 Angra acoustic tracks have been duplicated on many
different releases, Angra's record company is very good at releasing
the same shit over and over again.
To my knowledge the same 3 songs in question have been on:
Holy Land special 2 CD version, comes in book like pakaging
Freedom Call Brasilian versioin ?
Finally a Japanese CD single by itself.

The one (sliver CD) Angra acoustic boot that I know of and own
is 'Unplugged Live 1997', a full 75 min set of acoustic songs
including a great cover of 'Wasted Years'.
Audience recording of not bad quality, a rather noisy crowd.

I'm not trading anything right now, but my arm can always be twisted :)

Jeez.  My highly anticipated new Columbia House subscription just turned out
to be quite the disappointment. :P  Several CD's that I was looking forward
to ended up sucking ass or just not living up to expectations.  For example:

Mahavishnu Orchecstra - Birds of Fire:
Sounds like bad musical filler for a Scooby Doo on Acid afterschool special.

The Gathering - Always:
Back when Anneke had a dick.  Sounded just like Nighttime Birds type stuff,
but rather than a beautiful siren voice, you're greeted with a vocalist who
sounds like he's cursing through his sphincter after having eaten five 12
oz. cans of Hormel Chili for dinner the night before.

Dixie Dregs - Full Circle:
I was expecting more.  Sounds like the control subject for the Liquid
Tension Experiment.  It'll probably be a CD I listen to three times and
never again.

Heather Nova - Siren:
Just as depressing as I expected. :(  The emotionally-saturated singing that
I'd read about before was simply not there.  I was expecting depressing
music that left me depressed for the wrong reasons.  hehehehe.  Maybe I just
got the wrong album...

Brian McKnight - Back to One:
That's what I get for buying on impulse.  I saw the video for the title
track on VH1 and bought the CD.  Ends up it's just another stereotypical
Boys II Men style R&B album.  Too much bass, overemphasized, breathy
vocals...  While this album >may< grow on me, the only thing cool about this
album thus far is the guitar he's holding on the cover.  He's not worthy.

Of course, there were some gems in there: Steve Perry - Greatest Hits, David
Arkenstone - Citizen of the World, King's X - GGtN, Dream Theater - I&W (to
replace my worn copy).  The rest I haven't had the chance to listen to
yet...
