And the winner is... BRITANNY SPEARS! Only joking, it's good for morale. First off, thanks to the 40 or so people who submitted lists. As I suspected, places 1 and 2 were basically foregone conclusions. There are, however, some very interesting albums in the list, some of which I'll almost certainly be looking/listening for in the near future. There were a couple of people who sent lists so predictable that I could have written them myself, but I think the wide range of bands and musical styles represented shows us what diverse musical tastes are present on the list. THen listen to 'The fall of reason' by Watchtower, about 3:10 minutes into the song. There's that same basspart, only played much better by Doug Keyser. I've brought this up allready about a year ago, but it's still a nice thing to here. It makes you wonder if maybe John M. and Doug K. knew each other. Both albums, WDADU and Control and Resistance are from 1989. Great album by Watchtower, by the way. To bad it's their only album. What's wrong with you? Do you have a tin ear? ;o) [tic] Your quote of "DT is not DT without Charlie" sounds like something I wrote. It's amazing how funny that sounds out of context... I wrote that during the mini-debate over who could replace MP in DT. Some people cried out that DT would not be DT without MP. My point was that every time any band member leaves, that same opinion comes out from somebody. My reference to Charlie was just to illustrate this fact, and that it had occured when Charlie left, as well as when Kevin and Derek left. Same old conversation, over and over..."Band member X left band Y and now it's not the same. They should change their name to Z". my $.02, BH __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! It's the spot in "Freedom of speech" that starts at about 3 minutes into the song. "Meeting of spirits" is a very good song by the way. I found it on a jazz-compilation CD that my dad got for Christmas. You wouldn't happen to know which album it's on? As for emotional songs, here are some of my current favourites: (I would actually say that all good songs are emotional in some way) Dream Theater - Scarred, WFS/LTL, Finally free Fates Warning - The eleventh hour, Don't follow me, APSOG Queensryche - Promised Land, I will remember, The mission, Eyes of a stranger Anathema - Judgement, Fragile Dreams, Empty Marillion - Most of Brave, The space... Genesis - I find most of "The lamb lies down on broadway" very moving (excepting e.g. Counting out time :) Other artists that can be very moving as well are: Rush, Savatage, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Loreena McKennitt, Peter Gabriel, Tiamat, etc, etc, etc.... /Erik ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 Jan 2000 11:13:17 PST From: "Partha Mukhopadhyay" To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: if "the 90s bring new questions".... Actually, I find it quite ironic that they think us to be the misled ones, the ones who need guidance, when it's really themselves. I don't get pissed off at them as much as I feel REALLY sorry for them. I mean, whatever happened to "love your neighbor as you would love yourself?" Not that I think it would have any effect whatsoever on him/them, but I sent my comments along as well.
