You could construct an argument for DSotM, WYWH and TDB being layed back, but passive isn't really fair. As for anyone thinking David Gilmour to be a shit guitarist... Fuck you and the horse you rode on. He blew all over Steve Howe. >That's your problem. >If you can't recognize or at least respect (not liking) the greatness >of >Pink Floyd then SHUT UP and don't make stupid threads! >And grow up will ya? I mean Brucie, fair enough; but he can't hold a candle next to James. As for Geoff Tate, you're having a laff, in'ya? You are talking about Rob Halford? If he's a better singer than James, Burton C. Bell could put Pavarotti to shame in your weird little world. And what's the big deal about Dio? I don't get it. >As for his range, I can only say that I truly enjoy James' vocals >ONLY >when he stays way DOWN in the register, such as SDV, etc... I only like JP when he's strumming chords. The Silent Man and Hollow Years are, without doubt, JP's finest moments. Ahem. Although, seriously, I really dig MP's playing on Liquid Dreams...I think he's finally learned to lay back a little now. Or maybe when they did SFaM, he'd become addicted to "the mighty fuckin' Q"! I read that someone's mate was whining that MP's playing on SFaM was sloppy, to whit I can only say "Bollocks" - I like that he's not all over the song now. Now if JP could take the same lesson from LD, then that'd be cool. Don't get me wrong, there's rarely any points on what they've written where I find myself thinking "Why don't you just SHUT UP for a minute?!", but I do like it when he does sit back and take a backseat. I think it's probably insecurity. >- Some people bash James' singing style, just because >it is "out of style". Here's what my little brain could piece together: APSOG: definately my fav. The 'movements' fit together perfectly. It truly sounds like the entire CD is one song, w/ maybe a break before part 9. And while the parts were completely dependant on eachother (they sound kinda dumb when you just play one part, not in context), they are varied enough that they do not get boring. OMC: My beef w/ Mindcrime is QRs lack of variation. There are two styles on this CD, the heavy rock style and the twisted ballad style. Other than that, a decent album. SFAM: These songs sound great alone. But the only musical thread which appears to be holding them together is the M1 quotes. And IMO there aren't enough of them to hold the album together. The plot is one for a concept album, but the music doesn't fit. Just a few thoughts to mull over -Dan __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Sorry if you already answered the question and I >just missed it :} Lisa, you go, girl. You get down! Jump up, jump up and get down! See, I just resubbed about a week ago, because I've been real busy with my job, which is for a web design company in westchester. So I haven't answered anything. I'm glad people are interested! Yeah, I have a few shirts left - between 5 and 15, all XL. I could count them, because they are 3.5 feet from me. I won't be doing that. But I could have. :D Anyone wants to order a ytsejam shirt, check out my web page: www. j51.com/~mrasiel/another.htm. Right now, the intro page is broken, because I have this flash movie I made...but when i tried to put it on the page, all hell broke loose. so I'm redirecting ya'll right past it, hence the "another.htm". I still retain all my print design knowledge, BTW... and that gamut(by my skewed, skewed definition) includes silkscreeening, which means T-shirts. I still know how to make t-shirts. And what I'd like to do, what I'd really like to do this time, is actually make a DT shirt. I have some nifty ideas. The ytsejam shirt rocked your world and mine, but it has some limitations. First, it alludes to FII in design and content, and secondly, it is only really worth buying if you are on the YTSEJAM, or my mother. and of course, the obvious problem, the bleeping ADDRESS CHANGED. Thank god I hadn't had these things made the week before that happened! There would be a me-sized silouette in the brick wall I ran through on the way to mexico, where I could recoup my losses by starting a discount kiddie-porn slave ring. No, it's time to move on. so what I was thinking was make a few designs i have in my head(nestled snugly between those silly mitsubishi radio spots, the spice girls, and my third grade teacher with a robot head, spitting fire and disco dancing.), and put 'em up on my site, or something. Or maybe I could just speak to MP and see what he thinks. I'm just free-associatting here, like you people didn't notice. I'm just thinking I'd like to make an actual DT shirt this time, one that I could sell everywhere, to fan clubs, to fans, to anyone. I would need to get permission from the band and/or Atlantic for it, if I were to do it legally. And that's just assuming people would even be interested. I don't know. Any thoughts? Please send them my way. Thank you for your support. Especially Lisa. The rest of you can fuck off! that's a joke, folks. I love everyone. It was f***ing amazing. Really cool! The Set was the same as the other German Gigs, and pleased everyones taste! The new songs are really good. JOrdon is more than worthy to play with that band. The best parts were the Key & Git solos. Just unbelieveable. Petrucci improvised over a flamneco riff, which lead directliy to Hollow Years. I read that Jordan made mistakes the other days... well I am not a key-player, but I am sure, today he made none (or only little). I am realy impressed by him. He ist soooooo fast and he plays really melodic. Also he added a new nice (saw) sound to the first part Peruvian Skies, which I liked a lot. It gave the song a really mean feeling. If somebody has a recording of the recent gig to offer, I would like to get one. Since I've been away for years, I don't want to bring back what has surely been discussed so maybe you guys can point me at some places (archives of this list?) where I can find the info. Three things I'm most curious about. How does everyone like the live album and the new Scenes From A Memory? What happened to Derek Sherinian??!
