You think the 15 year old kid who likes Nookie by Limp Bizkit feels like he's being talked down when listening to DT?? Sorry but I don't think you know too many people who listen to that stuff. He doesn't like DT because there aren't enough vocals and, you can't dance to it, it's not heavy enough, they don't have a dj, or a multitude of other reasons. But I will bet anything he doesn't feel stupid when hearing Dream Theater. Or how about the jazz or classical listener who listens to stuff just as musically complex as Dream Theater? He sure as hell isn't being talked down to. Having this attitude is not going to gain prog any fans. > If you think it's "just music" than it's OBVIOUS that the person who just > doesn't get it is you. > Steve, I suggest you take everything with a grain of salt. Listening to DT is not a life and death situation. If you think I enjoy DT any less than you because I find humor to be appropriate in music than you're wrong. Obviously Dream Theater take their music very seriously but it's still music and music is supposed to be entertaining. Bands go about entertaining their audience in many different ways. Some play music you can dance to and some play music that pisses you off. In DT's case it's about 99% very serious music that conveys many different emotions. Personally, I'm glad to see one of those emotions is the fact that the band can be very tongue in cheek and avoids becoming overly pompous. > Even if I LIKED Jordan's part, there is no way that it "fits perfectly." In my opinion it does. The whole point of the Dance of Eternity was to go completely over the top. Unlike other DT instrumentals, such as ytsejam or Erotomania, there is no running theme throughout. It's more like the instrumental break in the original metropolis as it just kind of flows and keeps evolving and changing. And I find that Jordan's part coming out of left field ironically is actually right in place BECAUSE it is coming out of nowhere.
