And if we can help (politely, mind you) get them some exposure, and they find a few new fans, hell, even one new fan, that's way cool. And nobody in the world can say when a new prog fan might be born, just like I was back in 92... And I am not trying to convert the masses :-) There is no right or wrong when it comes to tastes... I believe the original pronunciation (and common amongst more latin based languages) would use the soft a sound as in "car" and the same soft a sound for the Stra syllable. (Strah toe var ee us) Whereas us daffy english speaking types come up with our own ways of saying things all the time and I've heard it here more as the long a as in "air" and the short a sound for the Stra syllable as in the word "had." (Stra toe vair ee us) However, I'm sure you could show it to someone here in the US and they'd swear it was: "Stray tah var ai oos" or something. The first time (w/Demanufacture) I simply gave the album to my brother and went to buy the re-release. However, they did it to us again with Obsolete. Now I love this band, but I'm getting frustrated at the idea that the fans who buy the album when it first comes out get screwed. I am no longer willing to... well, it's a lie that I'm not willing to buy the album again. I did it before, and I just bought a Japanese import of the Resurrection single which has three tracks from the re-release. I am not, however, going to buy the next album until six months after it comes out. It reminded me of a psych project I did in college, where I played various styles of music for people and got their responses. It's where one of my all time favorite quotes about music came from, where a HS student said "I only like songs I know." This particular statement probably does more than anything else to explain why most people listen to the music they do. But that's a subject for another message. What I'd be curious to see someone try is to perform the same experiment, but use someone in the same peer group to introduce the DT (or whatever band you want to try) to the listener. Often times, siblings tend to really disagree with each other, and will turn down anything the other one likes just because they're related. For example, when I was a kid buying Led Zeppelin and Yes albums, my brother was listening to The Carpenters and other top 40 stuff. I wonder if someone else in the same peer group, especially if it's someone the other kids think is "cool", introduces DT (or another band) to them, if the results would be different? As far as James voice goes, I'm not surprised that it was sort of a turn off. Simply because not only do you not hear anyone with a higher pitched voice on the radio, you rarely hear anyone singing on the radio anymore. They're either rapping, yelling, or growling (sometimes combinations of all of them at the same time), often not quite in tune with everything else. Actual singing might confuse people.
