It is almost done, I just need to get more pictures and bios from those who would like to be added. When I get those, I will get it up on the net and let you know! This page is obviously for the regulars on #ytsejam so if you are and if you're interested send a JPG at no larger than 200 x 200 pixels along with a short bio and let me know if you'd like your URL and or email linked. They are both magnificent keyboards, but they're better at different things. The Kurz, for example, does WONDERFUL real-world sounds, like pipe organs and guitars and such, and pianos for that matter. The Distortion DSP in the Kurzweil sucks REALLY badly. It has some good synthy sounds from the factory, which you can beef up if you know what you're doing with the sound editors, but they're tough to really tweak so that they're mad crazy full and beefy. The Triton is a beast as far a synth sounds go. It does really good Electric Pianos and Keyboards sounds, and has a nice piano, but doesn't compete with Kurz as far as realistic sounds. However, all you have to do is take a repeating waveform sample, distort it, chorus it, phase it, decimate it, and add a touch of noise. You them run it through the 7-band graphic EQ and a litte reverb, and you have a PHAT synth sound. As far as master controllers go, I think I would go with a K2500, but I would never use that as my ONLY instrument, just because it is tougher to do, well, "cool" stuff with it. It's more of a utility board. But it does the utility thing better than anything I've ever seen. Of course, all this stuff is gonna go out the window when the CD comes out and Jordan (the best keyboardist alive) whips my ass up and down with the 2500, pulling shit out of it that I've NEVER thought of doing on mine. Don't you think you are getting out of hand with this closed door to new information thing? it's one thing if we posted a track list, and I saw flames on here for mentioning the album's name which is absolutely nuts. Somehow, I doubt that the band would be against publicity of any kind, whether it is a single release or not. Saying that DT did not want the songreleased is simply absurd. What band would block the free publicity of radio airplay, especially in DT's case where they get none. If stations are willing to sit up and take notice of dT, they should beg radio to play the song consistently and without relenting like they do to most other songs these days. Yup. :) The SPDIF format (Sony-Phillips-Digital-lnter-Face) is the standard by which all data is transmitted from one component to another. Encoded in a single stream of data are many separate pieces of information including music, timing data, and the master clock signal which, just like a musical metronome, keeps all of the electronics operating together. The decoder's function is to separate the many pieces of information from the single SPDIF data stream. Consumer grade CD players (95% of all CD players on the market) are equipped with a cheap CMOS crystal Oscillator, with a high level of analog input noise. If the master time base generator is unstable, inaccurate, or both, this can cause timing errors that can, and do, include speed and pitch variations. Since a crystal oscillator only requires one single inverter to work, most CD makers use the other 5 inverter gates in the 74HCU04 IC for other purposes, such as switching and buffering. However, this causes switching noise on the supply rails, and since the analog trigger level of a gate is one half the VCC voltage, half of the switching noise is transferred directly to the input of the Crystal Oscillator. This creates JITTER, the most unfriendly phenomenon in digital audio equipment. Sound will be harsh and Stone Cold. The sound stage is narrow, and uninteresting. Music becomes what is known as: DIGITAL! Thank God for the other 5% of CD player manufacturers. -- Al - The Ytse-ProGtologist ^ Switchcraft Microsystems ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When you live in the land of 10,000 lakes, it's nice to know that all men are created equal in cold water. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Sep 1999 02:53:18 -0500 From: "Al @ Switchcraft" To: retaehT maerD Subject: One more thing Message-ID: One other thing I forgot to mention... Ok, Mark has contacts with the rest of the band, yes. But he has also been reading the 'jam, and knows that people don't want to find out about the album, or read any spoilers. And in the very title of his message, he posted a spoiler. He didn't mark his message as a spoiler in any way, he just typed it out. Even if you were skimming the message titles at the beginning of the digest, the spoiler was readable. That goes right against your original point. So, you seem to have missed my point... that everyone else should put *spoiler* in their message, except a select few? As I recall, no info was to be divulged until the 26th. Unfortunately, Mr. Portnoy has voilated the new rule! Heh... though he won't get kicked off the list :) It should be OK for band contacts/members to divulge info to the list, yes... but those same people that have the spoiler info, also read the 'Jam. They know that people don't want to read spoilers, so by the same token that you want everyone else to warn you of a spoiler, so should these other people. Anything else is hypocritical. >So I have to work extra hard to make sure that *I* don't get exposed to >anything while nobody else has to do their own part? How hard is it, >really, to put a (SPOILER) in your subject line? As Lisa Marie said, it's >netiquette and it's common courtesy. It's a two-way street here, and it's >not like you get off the hook. No, you don't have to work extra hard. People should know how to follow rules, and be able to control themselves. But you aren't taking my point at face value. Even though rules are set, people might not follow them. You know this fact, so the only sure way to keep yourself in total secrecy is to voluntarily remove yourself from the info that could spoil it for you. That's all I meant by that. It's a shame that people post these spoilers anyways, despite the rules. If I wanted to read no spoilers, I wouldn't read the jam. For me, though, it doesn't matter one way or another. I would listen to clips, or not listen to clips. It's not that big of a deal for me. Now, if the new PUMPKINS album was coming out, I'd go a bit more bezerk over it. :) It's just sad that people have such poor control over themselves. This isn't pointed at you, Andrew. It's those people that post spoilers even though they were politely and reasonably asked not to post them. >Why is it so difficult for you to say at the top of a post or in the >subject that there might be spoiler information? You're acting like I >want you to jump through hoops or light yourself on fire. This is not difficult at all. I agree with you here. It's just that you got "pissed" that someone didn't ... then Mark posted that spoiler without notifying us about it, and you didn't get pissed. That just doesn't seem right to me. I suppose that it's not that huge a deal that I know the album title and track names... I've been thinking about this. Even if I do know what the album title is and what some of the track names are, then it doesn't even make a difference, because I haven't heard the music! So what if the album is called Met. II: Scenes From a Memory... that really DOES make me more excited for what's going to be in the musical side of it. I'm REALLY psyched for what's going to be on this CD, and part of that is because of the secrecy, but in all honesty, part of it is because of what I've heard about it - the album title, for example. I'm really REALLY psyched that it's going to be based on Met. II. But I still hold that people should be more careful and more cautious about how they post stuff. You're right - it was inconsistent of me, and I apologize. I really don't know what I was thinking, and I didn't mean to be so harsh in my posts. But, in all honesty, I WAS thinking when I posted ("THINK when you post!"), and I meant every word. So I'm not going to use that as an excuse, and I'm not apologizing for WHAT I said, just how I said it. And, in truth, it DOES make a difference to me when I see that an official announcement from the band has been posted, yet reveals stuff about the album. Apparently, they wanted it known - and that's okay with me. But, yes, I suppose you're right - Even Mark should have put a spoiler warning in there. ------------------------------------------------- Andrew Coutermarsh email_address_removed http://cout.dhs.org/ Cloak on IRC ICQ: 2513441 ------------------------------------------------- Before you criticize somebody, walk a mile in his shoes.
