The DJ says how they were such a great band back in the 70s and that they are a reforming or have reformed or something and then they play a song, and whatever that song is I love it. Anyways I was wondering if some one could tell me the name of this band and if they are touring or something, if we will see them down here in Australia. Also I can't seem to find any John Maclaughlin or Dixie Dregs web sites. Could someone please give me a pointer towards one. And finally I found LTE2 in a CD store today after all these months of waiting and I thought it was great. I must say it was very very Jordan Rudess orientated for some reason. Tony also gets a good look in, but theres not too much Portnoy or Petrucci happening. I know that Petrucci had a baby, but theres not much of Mike either. Its still great though, that Liquid Dreams song is a killer- one of those songs you wish went on forever. The other day when someone wrote about Paint it Black and said it sounded like the Doors, that very night I saw the video clip for the Stones version and I swear they looked like they were trying their hardest to be the Doors. Mick Jagger looked like he was trying to impersonate Jim. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Aug 1999 13:40:18 +0200 From: "Sasha" To: "Ytsejam Mailing List" Subject: Yes? It's a pretty damn nice preamp if you ask me. It may not be a Triaxis, but it was by far the best anywhere near it's price range. I just picked up the Line 6 Pod for recording, it sounds really nice, but for clean stuff i use the ADA. I have had mine for 10 years, and it still works great. I'll see if I can find my manual. Yeah, it is. I personally prefer Fence the Clear, but Presents of Mind is definitely worthy of purchase. :) Which reminds me..... I need to go ahead and buy the U.S. version (w/bonus tracks). Right know I only have the European version which I bought at one of their shows a while ago. - Joe D. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Aug 1999 13:56:31 -0400 (EDT) From: Syrinx To: Sasha Subject: Re: Yes? Message-ID: <000901bef27f$7fd22740$message_id_removed> Keep in mind this is coming from a complete non-Zappa type: What's the deal with Mike Keneally? I've been to his site and checked out a single clip from his new album, Nonkertompf, which was nothing more than a run-together three minute collage of every tune on the album - and there's like 37 of them. I liked what I heard, but it was hard to tell exactly what I was hearing. Can a prog-head give an opinion on it? I firmly believe that people should not take themselves too seriously, but go to Keneally's site and you get the impression that NOTHING is serious, which I find pretty annoying VERY quickly. But then, that's a sort of Zappa-ish way to be, correct? It seems that the so-called Dream Theater tribute album has turned out to be a Dream Theater copy album (and not a very good one at that). For me, a good cover version is not a straight copy, but rather is reworked in such a way that it brings out new aspects of the song. Two prime examples that have just come out are Tiamat's version of "Sympathy For The Devil" and Machine Head's cover of "Message In A Bottle". Both are far removed from the original and very well executed. And now for an insight into what makes me tick. There are two songs that I would love to hear covered by two very special people. The first would be Elmer J. Fudd of Looney Tunes cartoon fame doing David Bowie's "Rebel Rebel" (I can hear it now - "webel webel"). The second would be the Reverend Ian Paisley (the barking mad leader of the Irish protestants) shouting Frank Sinatra's classic "My Way". Does anybody have mp3s of these, by any chance? stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: The Who - Quadrophenia ------------------------------ End of YTSEJAM Digest 5048 **************************
