At the time, Happy the Man were considered one of the best American progressive bands around! Unfortunately the (temporary) demise of progressive was just around the corner and so did not bode well for the longevity of the band. I spoke to the folks at One Way this morning. They gave me a release date of September 14, so I guess it's been pushed back a week. Both of these are excellent albums and I would recommend both. But if I had to pick one, I might go for Crafty Hands. I can't tell you how many of my customers have asked me about the re-release of these CD's over the years! You'll find these listed at the top of my One Way page at . I had listened to the snippets of the songs from the album from the cdnow web site and they really sounded great from what I heard. Speaking of which, I will be getting a limited 3 song sevendust EP for free from cdnow for advance ordering it. I hope some of you took advantage of that offer--I had emailed the info to this digest last week sometime when I found out about it. Anyways, I'll let you know what songs are on the ep and if they're worth trying to collect. 8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------ Wesley Foll, Geology B.S., Loma Linda University email_address_removed ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Aug 1999 18:09:24 -0400 From: "Art Ellis" To: Subject: Mullmuzzler backordered? I know there are some In Flames fans on here, so I figured I would share my thoughts on the new Dark Tranquillity album. They have taken a couple steps back from the brutal assault of growling vocals and fast guitar riffs to a more thoughtful (on some songs), slower style. Still very heavy. Mikael Stanne sings about 50/50 death/clean vocals, which is a refreshing change from The Minds I. As always, the melodies are above average, but not as good as In Flames. There is also some piano and the same female vocals they have used in the past, making Projector a nice addition to my melodic death collection. The highlight of the CD is probably the first track, FreeCard. If you wanna check it out, you can download an mp3 from www.centurymedia.com. Couldn't tell ya what album, but hey now you've got more to go on, sorta (The Stones only have about a million albums released). === *Trent "Thru the eyes and I sparkle, senses growin' keen. In a word: "wonderful!" I find this album a nice surprise out of KJLB. Granted, it has an unimpressive start for the first 2 songs. And he gets a little crunchy in parts, but the overall sound is quite good. And I like how the bass is mixed... loud enough to hear him for a change! I think the lyrics are an improvement over his attempt in FII. Almost like he's matured as a lyricist somewhat. Sacrifice and Slow Burn are my personal faves. And Beelzebubba is a FUN song. :) That's it for now. Back to the deadlines. :P~~~ -Nicole/Kirby === Nicole Stachowicz McWatters Kirby on irc.dreamt.org:2112 email_address_removed http://www.christopherlloyd.net __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? In a word: >"wonderful!" I find this album a nice surprise out of KJLB. Granted, I guess my biggest gripes about this album are that: a) He sings too high too often. Yes, it's a trademark of his style, and yes, he's good at it, but it seems like everything ends on a high note. b) I get the impression that the only thing that makes this KJ's album is that he wrote all of the lyrics and sang them. The music sounds to be 99% the product of the people he worked with. The songs with Allman and Cadden-James are totally Shadow Gallery sounding except that they're played by completely different people. The last song by Trent Gardner has a complete "Explorers Club" imprint all over it. I love the Guillory/LaBrie songs most of all, though. :) Matt is my hero. Other than that, the album kicks serious ballz. -- KorgX3 muzzles his mull.
