I'm just returning to the list after being off teh net for a LONG time, so could someone kindly catch me up on the following: 1. Is Mike Bahr still around, and if so, what is the address of his website? 2. What was the story behind Derek's leaving the band. I've read all the official stuff, but is there more to the story? Please email me privately. Thanks. -Mike Bradley _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. His Voice - Guillory/LaBrie Heavy progressive song, Matt's keyboard riff starts off, great lyrics and vocals from James, crunchy guitars, great double bass drums. Brilliant keyboard solo from Matt. 2. Statued - Guillory /LaBrie Another tune from Matt, after a heavy intro, Matt's piano dominates the song, with crunching bite in the chorus great vocal melodies from James. 3. Shores of Avalon - Allman/Sloyer/Cadden-James/LaBrie Starts off with some nice acoustic guitar, builds up into a majestic epic song, again great vocals melodies and lyrics from James. 4. Beelzebubba - Gardner/LaBrie Without even looking at the credits, the brassy intro has Trent's name written all over it, breaks into a heavy catchy riff, reminds me of Magellan a wee bit. 5. Guardian Angel - Wehrkamp/Cadden-James/LaBrie A longish track, a little less heavy, more AOR sound, great guitar work throughout, more great keys from Matt. 6. Sacrifice - Allman/Sloyer/Cadden-James/Labrie Brilliant ballad, great lyrics, with James vocals the shining light. 7. Lace - Guillory/LaBrie The third and final Matt Guillory penned tune, similar to the other 2, Matt's keys are played over a heavy guitar. 8. Slow Burn - Allman/Sloyer/Cadden-James/LaBrie Another ballad, James sings some great vocals and melodies over an acoustic guitar. 9. As A Man THinks - Gardner/LaBrie Starts off with an accapella from James, reminds me of Queen somewhat, then breaks into a Magellan'ish romp. Highlights ? Matt Guillory's songwriting and keyboard playing, this puts him up there with Jens and Jordan. James great vocals, he's sounding better than ever. Even for someone like me who dosen't rate him very highly his performance here is great. Not the limp wristed AOR frenzy that I was expecting, a real nice surprise :) Nor a prog fest either, a somewhat near perfect balance... All in all, a great album and a nice tie over until the new DT album is out. I rate it as the best of the DT side projects. My rating 9/10. gaz www.ozemail.com.au/~ytsejam ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Jul 1999 18:04:31 -0700 From: Michael Kizer To: email_address_removed, Ytsejam Subject: Ray Alder's album Engine news and premiere Message-ID: Hey gang, Well, I received my copy of this album (thanks Tracy!) and have to say, this is one killer album! During South Park the Movie, the scene where Kenny's flying into Heaven and that heavy song starts playing and he asked "Is that James Hetfield singing?" Well, I went to see South Park again today and watched the exiting credits and it credits the band DVDA as writing that song. Well, DVDA happens to be Trey Parker and Matt Stone's godchild. Trey does the vocals and plays the keys and Matt plays bass and drums while their producer plays the guitars. They were also the ones who did the heavy version of "What Would Brian Boytano Do?" that was played at the end of the movie. I don't think they have any records out or anything, just a couple of songs on their own soundtracks. He does sound like James Hetfield, though. hehehe. -- KorgX3 drops a Certs in his Cherry Coke to see what happens. I mean, "Carouselambra" is like eleven minutes long or some shit, but I'd never define Zep as a prog band. Labels like that suck and everything, I agree, but c'mon people Zep never did that. And the weird thing is that I've seen several agencies refer to Zep as being prog. But this point has been beaten to death (by me, if no one else). === *Trent -- check out my mp3s -- http://members.xoom.com/el_trento AIM- PageRiff ICQ- #39449102 _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I will gladly announce "yes" to both questions and walk away feeling proud of myself before they have a chance to ask me if I can play "better." I can always orient my fingers, toes, tits, whatever the hell, onto the fret board in a manner that I can start tapping out 149 notes per second so that it sounds like the spaceships on Galaga are attacking, but I can't always do it in key. :) But then, I heard Ptacek makes his guitar do the Sinistar "I hunger..." and "Beware mortal! I live..." voices, so that has me beat hands down. :P -- KorgX3 says the Bishop of Battle used to give him nightmares. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Jul 1999 08:38:26 -0400 From: "Andrew Coutermarsh" To: Subject: Re: response times two Message-ID: <001501becb9a$685ed4c0$message_id_removed> >Subject: Woohoo! Oh, sure they play, but they skip on every track and believe me - my CD's are in GREAT condition! I don't abuse the players at all (exept for the occational 3-foot drop onto carpet) and yet they NEVER last. What's going on here? My last two were Sonys and before that I had a Magnavox. Please suggest some QUALITY portable units that will stand the test of time. Are there such things? ...or do I need to invest in a bulky boombox? Any help is appreciated.
