Again, PF is not "prog" in the technical sense of the word, but in the "cerebral" sense, as I believe someone put it. They have much more of an influence on mindset and ideas than musical aspects, I think... I've been meaning to comment on the beginning of When the Water Breaks. I'll be damned if that whole beginning part doesn't sound like Fates. I can't remember which song . . . maybe it's A Pleasant Shade of Grey, or something off of Parallels . . . I don't remember. But it sure does sound similar. I see others have noticed. Oh well, I guess that happens a lot in songs. -Brian Anderson ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Jun 1999 12:49:24 PDT From: Thor Bremer To: email_address_removed Subject: Spock's Beard Message-ID: What would anybody suggest as the best Spock's Beard album? It's like they wait until the last one dies, and then asks the question. :) I'm not ragging on you, though, Thor. My suggestions: I would check out Beware of Darkness. Not only is it my favorite album of theirs, but it's got a good variety of different styles on it and should give you a good idea of what kinds of music they play. Besides, it has "The Doorway" on it. Even though I haven't heard it yet, I also suggest you try out Kindness of Strangers, which I hear is also SB at their best. Day For Night is a good album, but I don't even think that I'd put it in the same category as BoD, except for "The Healing Colors of Sound," which I abso0lutely no-doubts love. If it's one thing SB can do, it's long songs. ------------------------------------------------- Andrew Coutermarsh email_address_removed http://cout.home.dhs.org/ Cloak on IRC ICQ: 2513441 ------------------------------------------------- I like to go down to the dog pound and pretend that I've found my dog. Comfortably Numb, is my favorite, also including Pachebel's Canon, SB's June (damn! i just dled this the other day and i mean.. damn, this song rocks), and Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah. It still has rough vox (not as 100% rough as Demonic, though), but it's much more melodic. Oh, and it's HEAVY. Very, very HEAVY. Ive heard good things...my friend told me that "3 days of Darkness" is like REAL "Testament" Well Jeff was alone and the show was hellish.
