I like that band. They also do a cool cover of a Madonna song. I forget which one. Their major label debut, Start, wasn't quite as good, but it was produced by a guy that's done Rush or somebody. I forgot his name. Boy, I'm just a wealth of information, aren't I? > The reason Blockbuster > music was sold is beacuse Viacom (owns blockbuster, MTV, Vh1) wasn't > making money on the chain. That's because thier prices were too high! Before ours was caved in by snow, I would go there and listen to all the $17.98 cds, then walk across the street and buy the ones I liked for $12.98 at Circuit City. Also, some other Christian bands that are heavy are Deliverance, Saviour Machine, Living Sacrifice (I think someone mentioned them a few days ago), and the Galactic Cowboys (I think they are Christian, judging by their lyrics, but truthfully I don't know, either way they rock). Deliverance is/was (are they still around?) a really great thrash band, very heavy and melodic, Saviour Machine I haven't heard much of but I think, and correct me if I'm wrong, but they're more in the gothic/symphonic realm, correct? Galactic Cowboys are a fun heavy rockin' group that sometimes is down right silly...gotta love 'em :) I especially liked their second release "Space in your Face". IMO their best. Living Sacrifice, from the one CD I heard by them, is so heavy it makes Slayer sound like Mariah Carey. If you like it brutal and rude, look no further. On a side note, I love to see Tourniquet mentioned in the jam again. For that matter, a really great CD that just came out features the original guitar player and the original singer from Tourniquet. Great stuff, very reminiscient of "Pathogenic Occular Dissonance" and earlier Tourniquet CDs. I didn't much like Tourniquet's last album "Crawl to China", but Vanishing lessons, while not as heavy as previous tourniquet CDs, is by far my favorite disc of theirs. >oh yeah..i checked the DT website out..anyone know how can >i switch to non-digest mode??? thanz =) pray to the all-mighty...er... Does the RIAA only handle matters relating >to America or are they global? Just curious. well, as far as i know, they take care of things globally. That`s cause there are alot of american bands & artists whose albums are being distributed worldwide... and RIAA, as a "protection agency" here is controlling the distrubution and marketing and all that stuff which is being done worldwide. For instance: RIAA shut down that www.lyrics.ch site and the site was geographically located in Switzerland... but they had tons and tons of lyrics of mostly musicians from USA (big market, lots of commercial artists... hell, some of the best music comes from America *hint*... err, New York...heh...). As long as people who have contracts with some USA based record company are "working" worldwide, RIAA is "hidden in their shadow" no matter where they go... spooky... heh. strange... nobody here gave a comment on Derek`s statement about James` vocals... Ytsejam has gone steadily downhill over the past few days, and just a week or two ago people were saying how cool it was going. Oh well. Secondly, to the people who replied to my Christian music spiel, I think it was fairly obvious what I meant, please think a bit. Of course theres Christian music in a lyrical sense but I was replying to a few people's post calling music with vocal harmonies 'Christian music'. This shows ignorance in the matter and when this could cause a bit of offence to people's beliefs (no not mine), I think it just needs to be pointed out. I think a lot of people don't quite get what Christian music is about a lot of the time. Whilst I'm not denying there are a lot of twisted Christians out there who go to extreme lengths, for the majority discovering Christianity is an amazing experience which they wish to share with other people. Like when you first heard Dream Theater, and wanted to play it to everyone you possibly could. Christianity is the same, just on a smaller scale. :) Finally, I got the Chroma Key CD dead air for radios and I love it. I love how KevMo uses samples. There's only one thing that bothers me and that is the lyrics. I know Mr Moore can write some amazing lyrics, but the ones in Chroma Key just sound too... teenagerish. I don't know, they kind of seem a bit awkward and cliched. Oh well, I still love the album. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jun 1999 07:29:18 -0400 From: Dave M Klint To: email_address_removed Subject: Oh Christ (No offence to Christ) Message-ID: Just a quick comment on the Christian music thread: I went to a Christian Elementary and High school when I was a kid, and you can bet that a lot of people were trying to push the whole Christian music thing. And you can forget about youth groups at church, if you didn't listen to Petra, you weren't holy. My view is that Just because I'm a Christian doesn't mean that I have to make myself like all music that claims to be about god. I like music for what it is, and not for what beliefs the artist has. I think the percentage of Christian music that is at all good is about the same percentage as music in general; that is very very very low. I have a DC Talk CD (it rocks), and I watched King's X sing "Music over my head" about praying to God, but I don't have much else. So like what you want, regardless of the artist's beliefs. -davek ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jun 1999 10:27:47 EDT From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: YTSEJAM digest 4937 Message-ID: Hey guys.... Keep in mind that they seem to like pretty much everything that they review on that site, so listen carefully to the audio samples for what you like. - Are you familiar with bands like Queensryche, Rush, Fates Warning, etc? Do you like them? - Have you heard the "classic" progressive rock bands like Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, etc? Did you like them? Once we know more about what you have heard and what you like, we can make some better recommendations. Message-ID: I know of a bunch of heavy religious bands. my personal favorite is living sacrifice. it's really heavy stuff. like death metal/hardcore and they have tons of odd time signiture stuff thrown in and all their stuff sounds really brutal but it's all about god and that kinda stuff. also there was one called vengence rising i think and I believe all their lyrics were from the bible or something. anyway, there is plenty of heavy religious music out there. and even if you don't have strong religious beliefes, i strongly suggest everyone check out Living Sacrifice's REBORN, it is awesome regardless of what you believe. If anyone wants some MP3's of em, i am sure i can rip you one or two and put it up on the web. that's it -- W Layne Lowery P-NUT Records: http://www.pnut.net/ Meta Section: http://www.pnut.net/ms/ ICQ UIN: 3696719 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jun 1999 12:30:14 -0700 (PDT) From: "T.
