Sorry for straying off-topic, but i need some info and thought someone here could help. i have a guitar i'm gonna try to sell. But before i do, i need to know what i have and what to ask for it. Does anybody know of a good source -- internet or otherwise(books, etc...) -- for info on identifying older guitars. All i've been able to deduce is that it's an epiphone solid-body electric from around the late 1960's. i live in a pretty rural area, so it's not like there a ton of guitar shops around to take this thing to and have somebody eyeball.... Anyways, if one of you can help me out, great. And thanks in advance!!! I'd say that "Test of Wills" is heavier sounding than the others (more guitar though still mainly keys) but I think the overall songs and melodies just aren't as good. Good luck. Interesting. The real tragedy of the situation, IMHO, is that truly good bands may get hella attention in nations other than the USA, but they'll never be truly recognized for their talent (I speak of DT, R.E.M.'s Up album, etc) simply b/c they don't pander to the fickle tastes of mass consumption. Hm. Oh well, as I said in a previous post, I don't want DT to be so mindlessly consumed in such larges masses anyway, so maybe this situation isn't as bad as it may seem. > You look at the pop culture > nowadays, and most of > it is controlled by teenage and preteen girls, BSB, > NSync, Titanic, Buffy > The Vampire Slayer, Yup. I'm sure Sarah Michelle Goddess' presence in Buffy doesn't hurt either. The weird thing is that a lot of young girls went to go see Titanic, like, ten times when it was in movie theaters. I kinda liked the movie, in the beginning, but I never understood the large amount of attention it recieved. I'm not wishing to spawn a whole seperate thread, I just think it's stupid to make such a big deal out of a movie. Course, I'm the same guy who skipped a day of school to see The Phantom Menace twice in the space of six hours and then again the next day. Maybe I shouldn't talk... :o) One last thing, BSB's Millenium CD is now the quickest selling CD of all time... thanks to a lot of fickle pre-pubescent teenage girls mindless purchases. Anyway, i thought i should share that with everybody. later, jose Puerto Rico >> OK, so I guess every rock song with the chords G, D, A or G, C, D are ripping off AC/DC, huh? The song you're talking about is called "Lit Up" and it really kicks ass. ESPECIALLY when you consider all of the other crap new bands are putting out these days. DT is my fav band, but when it comes down to simple ass-kickin "radio" rock, these guys seem to have some great potential. Although I don't have their cd yet, I've heard many people compare Buckcherry to Guns'n'Roses. And although I've only heard the one song, I'd have to agree just out of the fact that these guys seem to have a similar style and attitude. But who knows, maybe I'll get the cd and be totally wrong and find out they suck ass. Do any jammers here have this cd? Any comments? Recommendations? Let me know. Personal email is welcome. I saw VH1's ROCKSHOW the other night and saw the video for Iron Maidens "Evil That Men Do". It brought me back to the good old days of staying up til 2am on Saturday nights watching Headbangers Ball. I forgot how much that song ruled! Also, has anyone noticed while watching ROCKSHOW, that it seems like the music is mixed a little off? Like if there's 2 or 3 guitar parts, for some reason one stands out more and the others are buried? I've noticed it the most when they play Metallica's "Whiskey/Jar" and parts of GNR's "Welcome/Jungle". It's not my tv or stereo, because it only happens when that show is on. To my listener's (read: non-drummer) ears, Reinert's playing in Cynic was a lot more intricate than what he did on the Human CD. Also, Reinert turned in some great drumming on Sean Malone's other solo CD, a jazz CD called "Cortlandt." Came out in '96. I recommend it, if you're into fusion-type stuff, and if you can find copies of it somewhere. I only listen to about 3 or 4 of the 6 or so tracks on it, though. Reinert is also involved in another project called "Aghora", another metal band. I'm not sure, but I think it's come up on this list. It caused a bit of a flurry on the Meshuggah mailing list because Meshuggah guitarist Thordendal is slated to play on a track or two. Maybe I'm getting the lists mixed up:). Based on the 2 clips I've heard, though, I'd have to HIGHLY recommend this band. All they have for sale at the moment is a demo CD, and I'm not sure when they're supposed to release something. For more info, and clips, check out: http://www.veilmaya.org/aghora/ > Child (ok), Naphobia (never heard it), SYL (ok if not for the fact that you > can barely hear him behind all the noise), and Testament (his most > un-inspired work I think)...I think Chuck Schuldiner sqeezes extra-juice out I have SYL's City and Testament's Demonic. Got 'em both cuz I heard Hoglan was on 'em. I wasn't really blown away by 'em. I still listen to City every once in a while. It's good music for doing homework. But I guess Hoglan's not really interested in the more elaborate type of drumming he did on Individual Thought Patterns and Symbolic. Shame. He was good at it, and I was hoping he would get even better.
