I currently reside in Beaumont right outside of Houston and id like to get a list of some kind of the Houston area jammerz. DT needs to come back down here. Its been a while. -Compadre32- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 May 1999 14:44:39 EDT From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: Dream Theater Vids on eMpTyV Message-ID: HAhaahahahahahaha.....those were some below the belt comments about the videos of OFB, but finally, someone sees eye to eye with me. The thing that has always made me laugh about their videos is how James is the centerpiece of the entire video. Its freakin hilarious!! He is obsessed with the camera and hes always "breathing down its lens" and stuff. I also agree that the videos dont define Dream Theater. But for that matter, theyre really havent been any video from any band that really have. I think Kevin Moore should make them one...i hear hes quite the video maker these days. Or maybe puff daddy..... well, as long as DT keeps making the best music on earth, Fuck videos. They are merely a commercial ploy to the musically retarded for them to spend 15 bucks on an album with like one or two songs they really want to hear. I do agree that there is an artistic end to them, but its not being excercised (esp. in DT videos).....oh well....im sure ill get flamed for these comments.... -Compadre32- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 May 1999 12:26:54 -0700 From: Amanda Rosenblum To: email_address_removed Subject: MTV and SoCal stations Message-ID: > Would we see any of the Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Ozzy, OLD Metallica, > Megadeth, Kiss, Motley Crue, Poison, Twisted Sister videos that DEFINE what > metal is all about? Hell no! It would alienate 95% of MTV's audience. I bet if MTV started playing more Dream Theater and featured any progressive rock, half the people on this list would be bitching about what sellouts they are, and how it used to be fun liking a rather unknown band versus the commercial success they have become.. this is of course assuming that a prog metal band could "make it" after the exposure on MTV. IF MTV started showing videos of those bands you listed, I still wouldn't watch. I'm not a huge fan of music vids, but if I was I'd want to see new, up and coming music. I don't enjpoy listening to classic rock, especially metal, all that much. Now if they ever showed a Devin Townsend video, THAT I would watch. > As anyone who lives in or has visited L.A. recently, radio here sux > donkey nads. Ever since KNAC went off the air however many years ago, > tuning into a radio station for more than 10 minutes and being > entertained has been next to impossible. So true Cheryl. We had Pirate Radio, then that died, then KNAC, then that died as well. I think KNAC still has a web site around, and I've seen flyers and posters for them all over the place. If you can stand on your head and do cartwheels for the sake of good reception, there is a decent station in the Inland Empire called KCAL.. I think it's 96.9 or something. I can't get it here at school but I can get ut at home, which is 60 miles from the base of the station. ~~Amanda who is really damn sick of seeing eMpTyV ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 May 1999 15:44:48 EDT From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: O-P's LTE PAL video Message-ID: > I finally got some PAL-versions of the LTE video done.. look & sound > awesome, intrested traders mail me :) Any PAL video traders, I STRONGLY suggest you go to O-P for this LTE video. The tape O-P made the PAL conversion from was a 1st generation S-VHS (approximately 2x the resolution of normal VHS). So it stands to reason that this is the BEST PAL version of the LTE NAMM/Roxy shows out there. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 May 1999 14:44:01 -0500 From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: HELP ME PLEAE???? I guess Shirley and Portnoy thought it would sound weird to include on the live album or something, but I think it sounds even weirder after they muted James' channel during the final mixing process when you actually can hear him through the other channels. (probably through the mic that was recording the audience cheering or something) -bogie ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 May 1999 20:32:56 -0500 From: "Al @ Switchcraft" To: retaehT maerD Subject: Speakers Message-ID: Joe "boom boom" DeAngelo wrote: >I'm curious if you chaps could tell me how you feel about Acoustic >Research speakers? Here's a quick test for you... Knock on the cabinets, if they sound like a wood box, think twice. If they are like knocking on a slab of concrete, think no more, buy them if you like how they sound. As a rule of thumb: Speaker manufacturers don't put cheap drivers in good cabinets, and they certainly don't waste good drivers installing them in lousy cabinets. If you knock on the large side of the cabinet and they sound like a kettle drum, they probably aren't worth the effort of connecting wires to them. >(BTW, I would like the setup to be fairly good for listening to music, >as well as being a nice 5.1 surround setup for TV). You really can't have your cake and eat it, too. You need to decide what's more important, stereo or theater. Multi-channel receivers are a poor man's home theater and a music lover's vehicle to shooting ones self in the foot. You can always integrate a three channel amp and external surround processor into a stereo setup. Then, when your processor's format becomes yesterdays news, the processor is the only thing that needs to be replaced, not the entire electronics array. Seperate components have and always will be more versitle than the all-in-one wonder boxes. BTW, I checked out the AR 312 HO speakers via the provided link... I'm a little concerned about the way they color the specs. No way in hell will they go down to 30 Hz @ -2 dB in an enclosure that small. They also conveniently avoid publishing what the materials are under the veneer. There was no mention of weight, low frequency F3 and F10 roll-off. They also played a little spec trick with the sensitivity measurement. This raises a flag with me. I question what they are trying to hide. Before you drop any coin on those speakers, let me see if I can find a local AR dealer. I'll take a peek and see what they are all about. AR is not adhering to the normal methods and procedures regarding speaker performance measuring, they are playing the same spec game that Fisher, and Box-O-shit brand speakers are. At $479.00 each retail, I think you could do much better. But I will give them the benefit of the doubt and check them out. -- Al - The Ytse-ProGtologist ^ Switchcraft Microsystems ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "It's supposed to pack an awesome buzz" --Butthead ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 May 1999 23:54:12 +0500 (GMT) From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: THE ONLY WAY TO DO IT FOR UNDER $2,000 . I literally live directly across the street from the city. In case you don't know, Tomball is mainly filled with a lot of dumb, shit-kicking hicks. Yes it's true.
