Poking around on Sean's web page, I found eight major recordings (i.e., Cynic, Gordian Knot, his solo release Cortlandt), plus 26 (yes, TWENTY-SIX) discs that are listed as "other recordings". I presume these are the ones that he only plays on one or two tracks; still, that's an ungodly amount of discography for one guy. :) Cheers, Phil ========================================================= Phil Carter -- email_address_removed http://www.mindspring.com/~philcarter Check out the Glass Hammer website at http://www.glasshammer.com/ "Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life." -- Berthold Auerbach ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 05 Apr 1999 20:25:07 -0400 From: Nick Bogovich To: email_address_removed Subject: Set List for LTE Philly show Message-ID: Go to Lines in the Sand and you can find the LTE Set List under the News archives. I would put Big Generator after Union. I actually like Union alot and would put it before most others. heheh. Ah, well. Big Generator just makes me yawn. It's not as bad as Open Your Eyes, though. hehehe. I WILL learn to like that one though! 90125 and Drama are definitely good ones to pick up, imo. They have a couple of songs that get radio play (or used to anyway). But then I'm not fond of music older than I am very much. Unless it's classical stuff like Lawrence Welk. They are all with a 9-11 piece big band, and they're amazing. Somebody mentioned some funk drummers, let me mention one here in New Orleans, Stanton Moore...This guy is amazing. He's with this band called Galactic, who is rising pretty damn good, opening up alot for bands like Widespread Panic and Medeski Martin and Wood. Both of their albums, Coolin' Off and Crazyhorse Mongoose are available through places like CDnow, and anyone who wants to hear some damn good funk should go listen to those, the bass player and the organ player are both very good. Moore also has a solo album out that he put out with Charlie Hunter playin' sax, and it's fine too...great New Orleans feel(anyone who knows what this feel is knows what I'm talking about, that good "street beat") One other guy I'll mention is Johnny Vidacovich, another New Orleans guy who's done all kinds of clinics and teaching all over the place, and he's played with all kinds of people, Steve Masakowski, Mose Allison, and Astral Project(who he's currently with) being some examples. Probably the finest drummer to be found in the area. I'm looking for some good Terry Bozzio things to get, I know he's played with Jeff Beck, but what other recordings can I find on CD with him on it??? I keep hearing about him, someone even told me he's better than MP, which I find stupid to say(At that level of excellence who can compare???) and hard for me to believe as well, so I would like to hear some....If there's not much on CD, anything on MP3 or something??? Thanks for any help ya'll can give me.... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Apr 1999 10:34:01 +0200 From: "Martin" To: Subject: Re: Steve Gadd Message-ID: <000601be8008$3e31d720$461ea8c3@h6d7z8> Yeah I agree but I meant prog drummer as a drummer like Mike Portnoy or Mark Zonder. I have lots of Gadds transcriptions, his book, video and albums with Chick, I know him and his playing and he was really progressive. I also play drums so I know that he is damn great player, one of the most influential ever. But you all were talking about "progressive ROCK". Anyway, my "not prog" supergroup will look like this: Drums - Myself, Steve Gadd, Dennis Chambers, Billy Cobham Guitars - John McLaughlin, Pat Metheny Bass - Stanley Clarke, Tony Levin Keys/Piano - Chick Corea Vocals - no vocals Martin >> >> Steve Gadd (not very prog drummer at all but who cares?) >> YIKES !!!!!!! I have to disagree with this 100%. Unfortunately, being sort >> of a "session drummer", he gets placed in a variety of situations, not all >> of which are conducive to showing his talent. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Apr 1999 13:01:29 +0100 From: "Dreamgirl" To: email_address_removed Subject: Jordan's Nickname Message-ID: 'The Man with the Liquid Fingers' was a phrase invented by Nikki Brooks to describe Jordan after hearing his playing on LTE1 - originally seen on the Jam a few months back. [Trent]>My favorite trick is when a band releases a boxed set with all the hits, some not so big hits, unreleased tunes and some "new" songs. [Brian]>Of course the other great rip off in practice today is to release a "greatist hits" disc, and add one or two new songs Before we go around pointing fingers, i'd like to interject something here. If i'm not mistaken, the majority of these "Greatest Hits" and "Boxed Sets" that are released are done without the bands involvement. Brian had it right when he said: >I think that sometimes it's a money making issue But it's the record companies that are making the money, not the bands. i've noticed that these greatest hits albums are regularly released when a band undergoes changes -- like leaving a label or breaking up. It seems to be the record companies that go through the catalog of music the band has recorded and turned in and cull items from said catalog to create these works. i don't know for sure, but i suppose that the same theory is in work for the remastered discs. Just a humble man's humble opinion.... Be good!
