Primarily, it's that, but probably also that a lot of the first CD issues were basically dumped from the master tapes, or sometimes even second or third-gen tapes in order to get the material on the new format. Later on, many artists heard the CDs and discovered that the sound was crap (sometimes. some old CD issues weren't too bad) and decided to have them remastered. A prime example of this is the King Crimson remasters...EG Records rushed the back catalog onto CD and ended up with some poor sounding CDs. Robert Fripp found out about it, and during a relative lull in his career, remastered the albums with Tony Arnold. However, albums are remastered for other reasons as well, such as for simply making money, as is the case with many anniversary edition remasters. Usually the artist is not involved in those ventures. -- Craig Griffith: High school student, guitar player, King of Craigland http://www.geocities.com/EnchantedForest/Dell/8509/ Music page: http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/Opera/2398/index.html "I may make you feel, but I can't make you think" -Ian Anderson ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 Apr 1999 15:47:21 EST From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: ATTN: D-Man Message-ID: Sorry to clutter up the jam, but could CHRIS MERLO please e-mail me?
