As more stress is detected in the wrists and hands fluids from God >knows where flood that tunnel. When the work is done, the fluid recedes but >leaves something of a film behind. Eventually the film builds up into this >gunk that is just trapped there until eventually the swelling never goes >away and they have to cut into you to clean the shit out. I might be wrong, >but that's the way it was explained to me. Don't listen to any of this! The Carpal Tunnel is the tunnel that penetrates the Carpathian mountains..... Actually, the CTS is caused by the irritation of a nerve, the median nerve. This happens when the coat of the wrist's tendons develops an inflammation, gets swollen and puts pressure on the median nerve, in the limited space of the carpal tunnel, between the two wrist bones (I don't know their english names). The result is pain and other disorders caused by the pressure of the nerve. The coat of the tendon (I think it's called serana or something) sometimes gets swollen because of the repeated movement of the muscles that move the fingers, as in typing. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Mar 1999 21:15:47 -0500 From: "Jeremy Kube" To: Subject: CTS, my poor wrists.... Message-ID: <000801be7b1c$6526e0a0$message_id_removed> Hey all, I have CTS is my right hand. I had corrective surgery on my left hand when I was 14. I have gone many years without doing the surgery on my right hand. Right now it isn't bad, but at times... I can't even feel my fingertips from numbness. I am a drummer, so I wear my corrective wristbrace when I sleep, and if I am lucky, I have no effects on my hand. Btw, my left hand is absolutely fine. No permanent effects besides the correction of the carpal tunnel. What exactly is CTS? Here is my definition.. .fucking pain and numbness!! No, really.. Its a condition where the "tunnell" is constricted. Meaning, essentially; that the muscles in the hand are too big or there is a buildup of fluid in the tunnell. This constricts the blood flow to the hand. I have the fluid buildup. In fact, when I had the surgery to correct my left hand, I shot fluid about 4 feet in the air when I flexed up my arm. It was really sick. The surgery is done in the doctor's office. Recovery/rehab is about 4-6 months. I got all of my hand strength back in about 6 weeks. I was on summer break from Jr. High school and was able to work all day on strenghting my hand again. I am left handed (for writing only) so I couldn't write well for several months. Well, I figured I'd enlighten you. Later, J Jeremy Kube email_address_removed email_address_removed email_address_removed "This Job would rule if it weren't for the f*$king customers!" The continuous stress caused by typing actually weakens your carpals to the point that they develop holes...the tunnels. These open spaces subsequently fill up with fluids (mostly lymph) that vibrate when you continue to use your hands in an unhealthy manner. This can cause extreme pain in some and can only be relieved with acupuncture (temporarily) or invasive surgery. If you feel twinges in your hands or discomfort while typing, you may have an early form of carpal tunnel (though sometimes it is simply muscle stiffness). Have a hand specialist do an electromyelogram to be sure. If anyone is interested, I can send you electromyelograms of healthy/unhealthy carpals. -Rahul Ananda- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Mar 1999 00:29:39 EST From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: Rudess Interview Message-ID: Music Street Journal 15 is up. Last night I was looking through an old tape of stuff taped from tv (I was particularly looking for the queensryche unplugged show) and while fast forwarding through the tape I came across an mtv interview with James and Mike. The interview was taken just before the foundations gig and they were talking about Kevin Moore leaving and some other stuff, they then proceded to show some clips of the show with Jordan on keys, which probably means that that there is a semi-pro tape of the whole show kicking around somewhere in MTV's archives. Anyway, if I can persuade a guy from work to make an mpg of it, I'll upload it somewhere. I bought X's :compilation album which has 2 or 3 songs from each of their albums, and :I felt exactly the same way. I thought they were gonna be all proggy, :but no, they're hard rock, kind of blues-ish almost. You mixed the terms here. Claiming someone is prog is like describing icecream as sweet, while you have a kazillion flavours. I'll persume you expected wacko timesigs, industrial guitar shredding, vocals that try to wake up somone on Mars and lyrics that speak about something divine. Yea, you probably expected progressive METAL. King's X has always been described as hard rock progressive trio and that's the name that suits them best if you really have to put labels on bottles. :But, Ty Tabor can :play pretty well, and the songs weren't bad once I adjusted. On the :disc, there's a few live, prev. unreleased tracks, and the last one, :called "Over My Head", is a rockin' tune. I often put it on repeat. I :love that song! But it's the only one, on that disc anyway, that has :that certain kickassedness. If they have any other songs like that one, :someone please tell me! Songs are actually excellent, do take some more adjusting :) But their so called 'Greatest Hits' is hardly what it claims to be. Most of their best work isn't included, songs like Fool You, Picture, The Train, Mission.. and the list goes on and on. If you want to hear King's X at their best get three albums: Ear Candy, Dogman and their latest TapeHead. Kickass songs like Over My Head? Most of their songs kick my ass, but I'll persume you'r looking for tunes with heavy riffs and very stong groove. Get their latest album Tapehead. Songs like Fade and Groove Machine will do the trick. :Another platypus point: I think that Derek, without the influence of a :whole band that plays prog, left to his own devices to play what he :will, will probably shift back into the hard rock mode that he comes :from. Now he might bring some proggy undertones or whatever with him, :but I just assumed that he would not be playing the LitS type stuff that :he contributed to DT. Correct me if I'm wrong. Regardless of many people that claimed that Platypus is whimpy, I think it's very progressive, it's just something different (yeah, it's not as weird as 'prog'-albums that come out lately). Spock's Beard is great band and I think their stuff is pretty cool, but it's nowhere near the genious of Platypus. Matej *burp* P.S. Satruday night KX show was AWESOME. They indulged the crowd and played Cigarettes and they obviously haven't played it in a loong time. They let the crowd sing and they made funny faces, not remembering how that tune really goes, what key is it in etc. It was hilarious. Anyone interested in video of this show? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Mar 1999 14:26:03 +0100 From: steve.arthur@twm.co.uk To: email_address_removed Subject: Platypus, King's X blah.blah... If you want wild music get this. It is very hard to describe. Dio-Diamonds-What can you say except Dio rocks... I downloaded the acoustic Superior mp3 from the Superior site. It didn't take very long-about 25 minutes at 28.8. You gotta love unreleased high quality mp3s... Someone mentioned that Over My Head by KX was the best song. I digress. My opinion is that song is my least favorite KX song. I guess it is because of the boot cds and live show where they extend the song way longer than it should ever be. It just plain sucks when it takes ALL your strenght to type a simple sentence, and it feels like your fingers are dead, and your arms are about to fall off... Please do yourself a HUGE favour and try to avoid this by getting an ergonomic keyboard/mouse and a gel wrist rest (these are great!). Also, make sure you take lots of breaks when you type a lot.
