I bought their most recent two albums: "Sophisticated" and >"Uneven". Unfortunately, I just can't seem to get over their singer. I haven't heard Uneven, but I think you haven't heard the real band if you haven't heard Steps and, even more, A Sense of Change. ASOC, is a masterpiece, something that can't be described in words, way ahead of its time and really original. The line-up in U and S is quite different, including the change of vocalist. Jogi Kaiser, who appears in ASOC, doesn't sing in U, S or their first album Life Cycle. BTW, Jogi is wonderful. DTC: there's a song in ASOC named Change of Seasons :-) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Mar 1999 18:58:36 -0500 From: Joe DeAngelo To: YTSEJAM Subject: Re: Spock's Beard.... WTF? It's a little expencive though something like 850$. And of course you'll need a CDR for storing your recordings and freeing up space to your HDD. As far as Watchtower, they are incredible. You have to listen to it, to believe what these guys are playing. For many people they are the pioneers in Progressive Metal, the root of the evil. It's just insane. Just pick up "Control And Resistance" and then come back and tell us what you think. I tried a couple out, and really like them a lot. I also have a couple questions about a couple more. I tried out a Peavey Cirrus and a Fender Geddy Lee Jazz bass. Both were real nice, too. At the moment, it's a toss up between the three, so if anyone could give me opinions, reviews, etc. I'd appreciate it since I know almost nothing about the Peavey Cirrus (other than it looks good and plays nice), and the particulars of the Geddy Lee bass (I did like that one better than most Fender basses I've played on before, but I'm not sure about what makes it especially unique from other ones). The music is rather commercial, yet musically skilled, with rather good vocals. I would call it melodic guitar oriented progressive metal with neo-classical influences. The music is a mix between Yngwie Malmsteen, Queensryche, Dream Theater and Rush. The difference between J.R.S. and the aforementioned groups, are that J.R.S. don't show off as much. The opening neo-classical track "Intro" would appeal to fans of Yngwie Malmsteen. "Living" is the best track and it's got a Prog Metal touch to it. The track "Homeland" could have been a track written by Rush with a typical Rush guitar riff. This is a very good album that won't leave you disappointed.
