For all you musicians trying to transcribe these lightning fast solo's from the DT boyz, here is something that might help you(Its helped me many times!!) Download. com get a file called Goldwave it allows you to take any amount of music directly off a CD and then you can manipulate it in a bunch of ways.. especially: a function called TIMEWARP, it allows you to slow the file down 50% at a time, without changing pitch of quality. It was the only way for me to learn those "OH MY GOD" parts in TTT and Met I. I dunno what the hell happened..... Harry D'Amour quoted I.E.'s Jon Schaffer: > ".....when we say "fuck posers" we refer to guys like Lars Ulrich who say that heavy metal is dead." OK, thanks for providing the quote. I've never seen that interview before .... Well, I'll concede that he did slam Met then, but I'm also curious about what Lars did say, actually. If he did go on about metal being dead, and how Met was never a metal band and such, that's pretty shitty too. > >They show no respect for their influnces? > all those above definitely prove that.... Well, I still disagree on this point. OK, they've admitted that they lost their respect for Metallica (frankly, I have to a certain degree also). So what..... that's their opinion, and they're entitled to it. They've also said very nice things about other groups who they haven't lost their respect for. > >Actually, Something Wicked sounds a bit different than Dark Saga > a veeeeeeerry little bit.... True, but the same can be said of the older Met albums. Like I said though, who gives a fuck if they're similar as long as they kick ass (which is true of both the I.E. albums, as well as most of Metallica's older discs). > what's the name of the song in Something > wicked.... that sounds like "I died for you"? "Watching Over You"? > Sorry to piss you off, You didn't piss me off. > apparently Iced Earth is one of your faves, I can > see that from your signature too, Yep, they sure are. And I admit they may not be THE most original band ever, but it's hard to deny that they're one of the world's best heavy metal bands out there..... > but so are Metallica for me. Agreed. I really like Metallica too, man. Hell, actually I just bought The Black Album about an hour ago (I had lost my original copy). I just don't like the last two albums (or some of their attitudes recently), that's all. Trust me... I'm not out here bitching about how horrible they are though. Despite my hating Load/Reload, I still bought (and enjoyed) Garage Inc., and frankly as long as their next album sounds more promising than Load/Reload, I'll buy that too. > I just like > to say things the way they are. Oooh, too complex to sell, surely? Sting had a big hit on his last album with "Hung My Head" (I think that's the title) which is entirely in 9/8. Anything can be simple, and anything can be difficult. That song is really easy to hear, but it IS actually a little tricky to play it smoothly. :) >From: "Harry D' Amour" >Subject: Re:In defense of Jon Schaffer and Iced Earth >Here's the worst thing, Joe: ".....when we say "fuck posers" we refer to >guys like Lars Ulrich who say that heavy metal is dead. I was once a big fan of theirs....Success >knocked them in the head.....Going around saying metal is dead is and that >you were never a metal group is a deceit. They're fucking posers" (from >an interview to the greek Metal Hammer magazine, June 1997) I'd ABSOLUTELY agree with the dude from Iced Earth. Come ON! If Metallica says they were never metal, isn't that undeniable proof that they're trying to pull themselves from the genre (i.e. abandon ship, i.e. SELL OUT). I have read SEVERAL interviews where they claimed to be, along with Megadeth and Anthrax (and maybe Slayer) the fathers of thrash metal. It's deceit if they go about it that way... you can say you're not metal anymore, but to say one thing and then say you didn't say that thing... is a lie. That simple. >".....they're (Metallica) making fool of the very people who made them so >great." (same interview) I agree completely. >From: "Brian D. Hayden" >Subject: Hoon some more No, Hoon no more. Please. Brian: I agree that no one deserves to die just because I dislike their music, but I learned by the harsh reality of this list, that getting in moral debates here is just not worth it. Throw in your comments and then just go. This is not worth the waste of bandwidth and the stress it's clearly causing you. No one benefits from this thread... not everyone functions by the same moral code (most of us do... some people are rebellious and think that it's cool to play superiority games.... you'll never win any ground with those people, and they're not worth the effort). Chill with the Hoon or I'll keep up with the Metallica. :) - Chris ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Mar 1999 20:36:26 -0300 From: Alexandre Lymberopoulos To: email_address_removed Subject: Sorry... You bet. Never heard of South America Online? :) >anything can be difficult. That song is really easy to hear, but it IS >actually a little tricky to play it smoothly. :) Aye. Yanni's someone I like to use as an example of this. You know, Yanni's not a lame as people set him out to be and he's actually pretty popular (especially among the elderly Mormon community for some reason). But alot of his stuff is written in odd times. Alot of his album "In My Time" (a pun? maybe) is written in 9/8. I think only 2 of the songs on that album are actually in 4/4 the whole way through. 9/8 isn't so hard to play when you count 1-2-3 1-2-3 1-2-3, but even so, it's still a difficult one to keep the feel of without screwing it up. hehehe. He also has a couple of songs in 7/8. He has a real whacko way of counting 7/8, too. It's like 1 1-2 1 1-2-3. But he makes it sound real easy and people dig the shit out of it. In Nostalgia he does this haunting 5/4 melody that counts out 1-2 1-2-3... Just badass things that are hard to play. Anyway, I know you guys get tired of hearing about Yanni... -- KorgX3 needs to go let this sucker out. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Mar 1999 19:54:37 -0500 From: Jens Johansson To: email_address_removed Subject: four messages catenated. absolutely zero DT content.
