I've probably done this about 10 different times to my friends. I used to have a speaker running into the bathroom, so when an unsuspecting friend is on the pot, I let 'em have it with Devin's scream! By the way, it's the intro to the song "Survive" on Sex & Religion. Truly one of the greatest screams ever recorded by man. Possibly only outshined by Devin's out-tro scream on Ocean Machine's Biomech. Now THAT thing is disturbing!!! Good to see people using the powers of Devin's screams for mischief! Keep it up! We are a 3 peice instrumental and played Paradigm Shift (the section in JP's OiaL solo) and The Darkest Eve (which was an original). I must say the reaction from the crowd was astounding. Every metalhead in the place came up to say how much they thought we rocked. Personal gloating aside, this was progressive music! Another example of how the media is stiffiling this genre from becoming as popular as it should be. Unfortunately, the judges were obviously the same people that run the radio stations, as none of the heavy bands (us included) won anything - the hippie bands did. :-P The fact is, there are plenty potential fans for bands like Angra and Symphony X, and Im sure guys like DT and Fates could be a lot more popular than they are now. Unfortunately, the media can't see this and ignore it. Spread the prog as much as you can! Minidisc stores about one fifth the amount of data as an audio CD, so to fit 74 minutes onto one disc, lossy compression is used. The compression method uses "perceptual coding" the same idea behind the MP3 compression, although they are not compatible... The original version of the compression algorithm was considered not terribly musical, and many people were able to easily hear the difference... over the few years since it's release, it's been refined to the point that it sounds quite good. In tests less people could hear the difference, and of those that could, many actually said the MD sounded slightly better! Anyway... The only drawback I can see with putting an MP3 onto a minidisc, is that it's kind of like getting a jpeg image, decompressing it, then saving it AGAIN as a jpeg... you're applying lossy compression to something that has already lost information... so you may hear some degradation. I guess the best method is just suck it and see... Hope this helps! Rob, Nope, you missed a few. In order, they are: The Great Spectacular - This was the VERY first LP they produced, released on their independant label back in 1975. They recently re-released it. Freefall - Lots of BlueGrass type stuff, pretty darn kewl. What If - Outstanding release, and after owning it on vinyl for about 17 years I just recently figured out what is on the front cover. ;o) Night Of The Living Dregs - One side is live (From the Montreaux Jazz Fest), this includes The Bash, one of the SICKEST tunes ever recorded! Live At Sigma Sound - Recently released KBFH show Dregs Of The Earth - Twiggs Approved and I'm Freaking Out! are 2 of the outstanding tracks on this one. Unsung Heroes - Includes "Day 444", which was the inspiration for the LP title. It was a tune written for the Iranian hostages (Do you remember that from 1980? GOD I'm old...). Also includes the classic Cruise Control. Industry Standard - A weak attempt to go mainstream at the urging of their record company. This release includes a few vocal tracks (previously all instrumental), as well as a Steve Morse/Steve Howe duet. Bring 'Em Back Alive - A great live disc from their 1992 reunion tour, packed with all their best tracks. Full Circle - I don't really listen to this one much, a bit weak IMHO. There's also a few compilations that have been released, which are good starting points. If you want a good sampler, pick up the "Divided We Stand/The Best Of The Dregs" one for beginners.
