Message-ID: Greetings, I have been privy to a sneak preview of Braindance's new albom Redemption. Guys, this albom kicks juast as much ass as Frear itself. This is possibly my vote for most innovative band of the 90's. They'd be at least in the top three, the other two being DT and Angra. If you haven't checked out their first two alboms, do so. They are emotional and technical masterpieces of dark progmetal. They need all the support they can get, sa well, because Redemption cannot be released now due to financial difficulties. This band deserves great things. That woman is the most original phrase-constroctor on a guitar that I've ever heard. The keyboardist weaves such amazing textures and the vocalist has a rich and powerful voice with a wonderful range. The bassist is a great-sounding fretless player and the drummer, who replaced their last one, plays tublas (if that's how you spell them) on this albom. Help these guys by spreading the word about them. I'll be handing out flyers wherever appropriate. Be well. Matt B P.S. I'd like a coppy of Vai's workout as well. ============================================================================ ATTENTION! ATTENTION! ATTENTION! Message-ID: There are two songs that I'm into that the local high school station (yes, believe it or not, they have an FM station) plays continuously, but the NEVER say who they are after the song finishes. Song #1. Hard, driving, and electronic. The drums are kind of a shuffle-type beat, and the singer sounds like a younger Billy Squire. The verses use that compressed sound effect like the singer is singing through a telephone. The choruses go something like: 'Never a knockdown, Never a knockout, Come on, take it all the way... Never a knock, knock, knock, knock, knock, knock, Take it all the way...' Kinda dumb, but a good song. Song #2 (and the stronger of the two): I sang some of the lyrics all the way to work, and I still can't remember them. The singer sounds like an older guy, like a deeper Greg Allman. He sings it like a soulful, straightahead blues song, but the band under him - WOW. The drummer sounds like Portnoy/Zonder, and the rest of the band is doing some overtly progressive-sounding stuff as well. Strange combination of blues and prog - almost like the Allman Brothers meets King's X. Any takers on either? Time to get on my high horse. i apologize in advance for any personal offenses taken by my comments (no sarcasm intended.) Vincent LuPone spewed: > Saigon kick? Saigon kick back to the CD store, sounds like an extreme-copy... What??? No, no, no, no no. Extreme copy? That's gotta be the single worst assessment of the band i've ever heard. (Yeah, i'm a fan, so i have a biased opinion to follow.) Granted, The Lizard is not their best work, for a number of reasons. i guess it all depends on what you were expecting from the record -- 11 other versions of Love Is On The Way? Yeah, you would be disappointed. The band, and Jason in particular, is plenty talented and it shows across the spectrum of work they've done on all 4 albums. If you're used to plain old, straight-ahead rock-n-roll, it'll take a few listens to get into their records(especially Water -- very adventurous in spots, you'd hate it the first couple of listens, but then...) but you're rewarded for your patience. Check out their first -- self-titled -- album, good rock tunes, with a small bit of punk overtones here-and-there. Their latest -- Devil in the Details -- is fantastic, start to end. Listen to 'em some more, you might change your opinion. Trent Thornton vomited, and this puddle lay at his feet: > from every decade, there's going to be a handful of bands that survive the ages forever more ... >90's- Pearl Jam, Nirvana, RHCP, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Collective Soul, 311. OK...First off, RHCP and Metallica started in the mid/early '80s respectively. Secondly, if the '90s are going to be remembered for these bands, i'm glad the decade's almost over! When my son is older and listening to his kind of music [shudder] bands like PJ, Nirvana, and NIN will be vague footnotes in music history. 311???? No. Not even close. > It's not immediately obvious right now, but you'll hear them spoken in the same context as The Who when youngsters like me grow up and are old fogies HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Please, please tell me that was sarcasm. i think because the '90s has seen such a wide array of popular music, there's going to be many schools of thought as to the music that will influence the next generation of fans.(or is this not what you meant by "survive the ages") The fact is -- as i see it -- a majority of today's bands are so unoriginal that the bands of the '70s and '80s are still going to influence music for a long time to come. >80's- Van Halen, uh, REM, and, um... ya know, the 80's were pretty desolate Let's not forget The Police, Rush, Public Enemy, LL Cool J, Prince, Def Leppard, AC/DC,...There's plenty of music with staying power. It's just that the crap:quality ratio of the '90's is the highest ever. i step down off my horse with a notice: i have no feelings, so although fun, a flame war will have no effect. peace, chris "You live and learn.
