Anyway, the thingies were busted in that CD case, too.... I firmly believe that when the time comes and I pick up Tape Head, they will be broken within that, too....so I'm prepared, went to a used CD store and weaseled a few jewel cases for myself while finally picking up waiting for the punchline on CD.... speaking of which, can someone with a clue send me details about Nuno's new solo album? inquiring minds, y'know? partha > Death Lord writes "the little things that hold the CD in place > were already broken..." > They were broken on mine too. Any ideas? i thought the same thing. according to a july 98 article in SOS with her sound engineers though, the ambient sounds on stage resonate off the lid and soundboard and cause the mics to peg the meters from crowd noise alone. so they decided to use samples instead during the band songs, which, on second look, actually do come from the kurz. something to keep in mind the next time you think about taking your bose out on the road :) - ilya ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Feb 1999 18:00:14 -0500 (EST) From: TheCowGod To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: Re: YTSEJAM digest 4666 Message-ID: > From: Glen Brooks > Subject: Re: YTSEJAM digest 4666 > > > Well, this would be impossible unless the chip can change the actual > laser. So, in theory, what you were told, can't > work. more importantly, i think, DVDs use a much smaller laser. i don't know actual numbers (al? rogerio?) but i know it's much smaller. so yeah, the combination of a smaller laser (meaning smaller and more "tightly wound" tracks on the cd) and a higher wavelength are what allow DVDs to store so much more info on the same size disc. so not only changing the wavelength, which seems somewhat possible to someone like myself who doesn't know the technical details (i'm sure there's some reason why you can't just change the wavelength, like you need a different lens or something), the size of the laser is much easier to be regarded as fixed. ya know? heh, all this about stupid off-topic stuff. i shut up now, yes? yes. moo. -- "You are what you eat, you fucking cannibal!" -- KorgX3 *** END OF TRANSMISSION *** ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Feb 1999 18:26:17 EST From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: keys/CD buying trip/ Message-ID: >< I'm trying to remember back to the Live in Tokyo vid, but I'm pretty damn sure that when they were showing the studio clips, Kev was playing a real piano. (Surrounded? I can't remember) >< I don't remember any clips of Kevin or Derek using a real piano, and I remember for a fact that Kevin was using a keyboard on LiT during the studio clips playing Surrounded. >< - I Took a look at some Tori Amos CDs.... I've never heard anything by her, so could somebody point me in the direction of a webpage with MP3's or something? >< Forget MP3's. go buy little earthquakes. you won't be disappointed. >< While I was there I figured it was a good time to increase my number of Iced Earth CDs, especially since they're in town in a few weeks. So I bought Night of the Stormrider. Well, after two listens I don't think it's as good as their last three (Burnt Offerings, The Dark Saga, and Something Wicked This Way Comes), but make no mistake: this is still a really good metal disc. >< Everytime someone praises Iced Earth, I have to jump in and disagree. =] Now I only have one album, The Dark Saga, but I thought it was one of the worst albums I'd ever heard and I gave it a chance and gave it a good listen and then I sold it. >< Also, I figured what the hell...... why not go ahead and order The Quiet Room's Introspect CD. >< Good move. Solid album. Not great, but good. Althougb a little too pre APSoG Fate-ish. It lacks hooks, but it is good. Although I heard from someone who lives in TQR's hometown that they got rid of their singer and now they're "death-ish" cookie monster vocals. What a waste of talent. On the one hand, there's a chance that Maiden might be able to come up with some great new music to rival their swansongs from Powerslave, 7th Son, etc, and undoubtedly the live shows will be worth dying for . . . BUT, does it mean an end to Bruce's solo career? His recent efforts, Accident of Birth and The Chemical Wedding, are two of the best metal albums of the decade, and far outshine anything Maiden have been involved in of late. The songwriting team of Bruce Dickinson, Adrian Smith and Roy Z is a killer combination, and I really hope we haven't seen the last of it. Having seen Bruce live with Adrian recently, it's gloriously obvious that few bands can come close to the intensity and power of this music; perhaps Maiden need to recruit Roy Z too? If you're gonna have three guitarists, you may as well get a fourth just for the hell of it. :-) >> I thought the exact same thing, Graham. I went to the official Maiden website where they had the announcement, photos from a photo shoot, and a brief question and answer session with the band. Of course, they avoided any vital question such as the one that you and I have. It was all crap like "so how does it feel to be back together after all these years?"... typical bullshit stuff. However, in the most recent issue of Metal Edge, there was an interview with Bruce, well before all this new stuff went down, and the interviewer asked Bruce to address all the rumors flying around about his rejoining Maiden. Bruce said that the only way he would consider a reunion was if he would be allowed to also continue his solo career. He recognized the fact that his last 2 albums were great and that he would not want to jeopardize that for anything. I'm sure that in the wake of this huge news, we are going to see quite a few interviews with many of the members of Maiden, so I think we can be confident that these types of questions will be addressed. I just hope, also, that Steve is willing to give up some of his stranglehold on the band's songwriting process and let Bruce and Adrian have their input as well. Here's to hoping that Maiden can recapture the magic of old... - Matt T. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Feb 1999 20:03:44 EST From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: Stratovarius Question Message-ID: Hey - It has recently come to my attention that the Japanese version of Stratovarius's "Destiny" has a bonus track, "Dream With Me", that's not on any other version of the CD.
