I think I actually saw some of you at the Portnoy clinic at Daddy's in Nashua and the DT concert at Great Woods this summer I was with Ed, I was the one he called the drummer the whole time. So you can get an idea of what I listen to besides Dreamtheater, this is my top 10 list of my favorite bands. 1. Rush!!!!- My all time favorite band, great DRUMS!!!, great bass, great guitar, great lyrics!!! 2. The Who- I think they appeal to my wild side, and best of all they're just fun to hear. 3. Eric Clapton- I love basically anything he's touched outside of the Yardbirds (I'm not too much of an oldtime blues fan) 4. Miles Davis- What can I say, he's "cool", and I'm a swingin' hepcat 5. Mahavishnu Orchestra- One of the few supergroups to exist long enough to be called a real band, and their fusion is just so funky and groovy and rockin, its the best of all music combined. 6. Crosby, Stills, Nash (& some Young)- For when I'm in my calm-nature mood, it gets me appreciative of everything. I don't like Neil's voice though. 7. Herbie Hancock- He's just so damn funky 8. Yes- Especially the earlier years with Bill Bruford on drums. (And I love that bass line from Roundabout) 9. Bob Marley- Like CSN&Y, it calms me down and just makes me happy! 10. Eric Johnson- Anyone who can make a song like the Cliffs of Dover deserves to be on my top ten list. As you can see, I don't just listen to prog I listen to whatever interests me and thats alot of different stuff. I also listen to Classical, Surf Rock, and all subgenres of classic rock possible and am constantly becoming interested in different stuff! Hope I have fun on this list!!! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Jan 1999 18:56:05 -0800 From: email_address_removed (Dr. Mosh) To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: Top 10 Bands Message-ID: Before being sacrificed upon the altar..., "Brian Hayden" thus begged: > >> My fav. top 10 bands besides DT: ( in no perticular order) > >Are all of you fucking stupid? > >Didn't any of you stupid assholes read the letter you got when you subbed? > >NO MOTHERFUCKING TOP TEN LISTS! > >Madsman tried to say it subtly and it obviously didn't work, so maybe you >idiots will understand this: > >NOBODY CARES WHAT YOU LIKE! > >So if you're thinking about sending a list....shut the fuck up. > My top 10: 1. Madsman - Tearing you a new asshole with his 11th finger while playing in 5/12 and 12th notes, special use of the 8-string guitar on track 3. (great album) 3. Korg - Whine 4. Max Verran - I dropped my crumbcake, I'm MAD AS A HATTER! 5. Graham Boyle - In The Navy 6. Brian Samuel Taylor Coleridge Hayden - SMUT 7. Jon Pah'met - SKULLCAKE 8. Amanda Rosenblum - Falling Into Amanda 9. Pat Griffin - FAQ THIS! (with japanese bonus tracks) 10. Skadz - REVENGE (The Mad Moderator) with the video 5 Years As a List Moderator 11. Message-ID: Greetings Ystejammers! The latest Artist Shop newsletter is out and you'll find it in its entirety at . Here's some excerpts you'll appreciate. The Artist Shop welcomes a number of new members including Jordan Rudess and his Key Wiz label . Jordan Rudess is one of the hottest new keyboardists on the progressive music scene today. It was made official in 1994 when the readers of Keyboard Magazine voted him best new talent. They made that honor all the more significant by giving him second place in the best overall keyboardist category right behind Keith Emerson! Jordan's tastes have proven very diverse as he has worked with the likes of Vinnie Moore, Jan Hammer, Tony Williams, the Paul Winter Consort, Rhonda Larson, Dream Theater, the Dixie Dregs, Rod Morgenstein, Liquid Tension Experiment, Annie Haslam, and many more! We are proud to be able to make available Jordan's hard to find solo albums, Secrets of the Muse and Listen. "Secrets of the Muse" is a collection of ambient piano and synthesizer improvisations. This album represents the kinder, gentler Jordan Rudess, without the monotony one often finds in the New Age genre. "Listen" is Jordan's 1993 solo progressive rock album. "Here at last is the future of progressive rock. Rudess is a genuine keyboard hero. His long, antiseptically clean, almost unbelievably fast lines recall Wakeman, though the songs on Listen hit harder than most of the Yes classics." Keyboard Magazine Coming in March from Magna Carta , Various Artist/Tribute to the Titans. The perfect introduction to Magna Carta's tribute albums to Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Rush and their Keyboard Hall of Fame Volume 1, Steinway to Heaven. Also included are a couple tracks from their forthcoming tributes to Emerson Lake and Palmer which is not slated to be released until April. This collection features performances by Steve Howe & Annie Haslam, Keith Emerson, John Wetton, Rick Wakeman, Kevin Gilbert, Jordan Rudess & Jerry Goodman, Magellan, Robert Berry, Mike Keneally, John Petrucci and many, many more! Progression Magazine issue No. 29 is now available! This is the biggest issue yet, with 164 pages. But guess what: he also considers _Queen_ a prog band. And guess what else? I agree with him! (What kind of moron am I?) I agree that sometimes labels can get too restrictive. I thought the whole idea of progressive rock was moving in some _different_ directions while retaining a certain artistry and vision. Formula can get boring quickly.
