Wake up. There's very smart people that like Nirvana, Savage Garden, Madonna, . Music is just something that is made for enjoyment and fun. Some people get it to the point of religion (these are not direct quotes of course): a) "we must convert others to DT!"=20 b) "I like such and such bands and everything else is just crap!"=20 c) "I need to find a girl that is into DT" (sounds to me like "I need to find a girl that goes to my church") d) "we must enlighten those who only listen to pop" e) "techno, grunge, industrial and dance will go away, but metal is eternal"=20 "Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness" - Chinese proverb. In short, my point is: one might not agree with other people's musical tastes, but one should never say they're inferior or stupid or just not enlightened because they disagree in opinion. Unless one is in 2nd grade of course, then I guess one is still allowed. --- Sorry this post is a little late, I've been bedridden for past week from a really nasty flu. Christian, I have to agree 100% with you on this one. I'm into way more than just DT (though DT is a staple in my musical diet). I have CDs that I like all over the musical spectrum from Loreena McKennitt to Morbid Angel. It is all a matter of what people like and what people will spend their own hard earned money for. But here are my 2 Euro cents on the subject of wimmin in music: 1. A guitar is just a phallic symbol. No wonder that not many women want to get their hands on such a blatantly sexist object. The neck of the guitar is obviously intended for penetration, and the act of sliding your hand up and down the neck is just too reminiscent of the act of male masturbation. As for drummers trying to symbolically batter their way through an ersatz hymen with long stiff things in their hands... Did somebody say "organ"? 2. Tori Amos - a matter of taste. I've got taste and she doesn't matter. 3. D'Arcy - the intelligent man's bimbo. 4. Drain - simply a good band. 5. Rock Bitch - pornos for college kids. 6. My final musings on this one - how come you don't see many transsexual boy bands around these days? If you appreciate any sort of music that makes your head trip, Tori is awesome. Alright, for some DTC, I have a question to all of the virtuoso guitarist out on this list. Last week I _finally_ had 30 extra dollars and went out and bought OiaLT, and I can say that it lives up to all the hype. But the question that I have after purchasing every single on of my DT albums is the same: how the f*ck does Petrucci play like that? I'm only been playing guitar for about a year, and I know that there's no "trick" to be able to play that fast, but like when he's playing flight of the bumble bee, is he playing that on one string? When he does the kick-ass guitar/keyboard ending to TTT, is he double picking every note? And when he does a pull off, is he plucking the string with his left hand? Someone care to help out a guitarist that sucks? Also, if anyone's going to the LTE show and is coming down from Maine or perhaps from Boston (I'm in Durham, New Hampshire), I _desperatly_ need a ride. I would pay much cash to see this show.
