He's kinda saying "see, I can do the Van Halen and Yngwie thing too." (But he's calling it "Too Many Notes"...) I picked that disc up when it came out, but it was not what I was expecting. Tumeni Notes was the most jamming song on there. I would warn anyone thinking about picking it up that it's more of an Irish, New Age disc. Very mellow, not heavy at all. (I like mellow sometimes, but this one is not really my cup of tea.) - BH _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? It has recently come to my attention that a promo CD was released in 1993 to coincide with the Foundations Forum (officially titled "Foundations Forum '93 CD Sampler") with an unreleased Flotsam and Jetsam track on it called "News To Me". I was wondering if anyone out there has this and would be willing to part with it, or at least set up a trade. If not the original or a CDR copy, maybe we can set up a tape trade. I really want to hear this track. Private e-mail please. Thanks a lot.... Matt T. I own it and have to say if anything it is very interesting, and a neat addition to any Queensryche collection. It is animated and goes through a series of about 12 scenes, each scene with it's own song. Most of the songs are intrumental in nature and a primally electronic, but the video does however contain one scene which includes the song "Chasing Blue Sky" a b-side for the Hear in the Now Frontier cd. You can order the video from most any record store, and there is a cd available of the music in the soundtrack section of most video stores. The acutal video is like a cross between a Tool video and Doom (the video game). andrew miller email_address_removed or email_address_removed _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? The greenbacks and some of the cheaper gold backs. The cd won't eject, but it will play... that sort of thing. Both times it took more than a day to get it out, and it was only a miracle that it did (poking and prodding the player in its most sensitive areas did nothing to help me... just pressed eject for the 1000th time and it worked). I'd be interested to know if this is a CDR related issue, or a freak coincidence. Al? Jens? :) As far as Myung is concerned, I know he wasn't picking on that song live, and the bass line isn't one of his hardest, so I would seriously doubt that he's picking on the album. What you're hearing is that click from his strings flopping either against the neck or the pickups. He seems to have a real harsh feel... like he pounds the hell out of his strings. I know Gary Willis was saying that a lighter touch seems to produce better tone (and Gary's is beyond reproach). It could sound a lot like picking, but the click seems too "in between" the notes. The sound of picking on bass or guitar comes much more immediately before the note... listen to Manowar. I find that WDADU has the most audible examples of the clickity bass sound... I don't know if I like or dislike the sound, myself. - Chris ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Jan 1999 23:32:50 -0500 From: "TheCowGod" To: "Ytsejam" Subject: tama website Message-ID: <001c01be3de4$9d1cc9e0$message_id_removed> following shawn's mention of cheaper octobans (thanks shawn), i went on the web searching for good prices, and came across the Tama website. i was surprised - it's not only well done, it's also very up-to-date. i'm referring to the artists pages - for example, mike portnoy's entry: Mike Portnoy Band: Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment Drum Kit: Starclassic Maple in custom Purple Fade (sizes: (2)16x24, 5.5x14, Octoban 343, Octoban 390, Octoban 443, Octoban 473, 8x8, 8x10, 9x12, 10x13, 14x14, 16x16, Octoban 536, Octoban 600) Current project(s): Double Live Dream Theater CD out now; titled "Once in a LIVEtime." Message-ID: Hello Jammers! Out I come from hiding to propose a new thread that might interest you: As I'm sure you all know, there's a new (or not so new, depending on how you look at it) movement in American metal lately. A segment of bands are starting to combine the urban sounds of rap with that of the crunchiness of the guitar, resulting in a hybrid sort of rap/metal. Some examples are: Rage Against the Machine, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, System of a Down, Hed(Pe), Vanilla Ice's new CD (Believe it or not!), Clutch, The Deftones... (I might be wrong about those last two since they're not as familiar to me...) If you catch my drift, I'd say these bands are original enough to warrant a new name for their genre. Originality does not dictate quality, by the way (since I dislike half of them) but we must be fair and acknowlege that they are breaking some new ground here. Has anyone heard of a catch-phrase used to describe these guys? I hate saying stuff like "They sound kinda like Korn". First, the new album, Presents of Mind, is completed and set to be released in Europe and Japan. The band is working on local release and is tentatively considering Magna Carta! The cover art is done by Hugh Syme. I've seen it and it looks pretty cool. The mixing was again done by Terry Brown. This is shaping up to be a good one. I will hopefully have an import copy soon and I'll pass along more details to those interested... Second, Tiles is headlining a show at the I Rock on Jan 23rd. No word on an opening band as of yet. Last and best, they will also be headlining the Motor City ProgShow! They've tried to put this together before, but it's finally come through. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but on Jan 30, I'll be at JD's Macomb Theater in Mt. Clemens. :) It's a hard place to find, but totally worth it. They opened for Fates there awhile back and the venue ROCKED. Anyway, the opening bands are House of Usher and Discipline. I don't know anything about them, so if anyone can fill me in, I'd be much obliged. Anyway, tickets will be cheap ($10 or so) and should be available through Ticketmaster soon. I'm looking forward to this one big time... If you want more info on Tiles, drop by the site at www.tiles-music.com ------------------------------ End of YTSEJAM Digest 4556 **************************
