Sorry for any off--topics this may be causing. yamaha EX5, for trade. have soft case and stand, quicklock single tier. Also have sustain pedal, manuals, and sample CDs. No scsi. Stock keyboard. Excellent shape, never used. Great workstation synth. maybe one of you will have better luck with it than I did. Looking for: either a roland xp500 or xp80 with the supersound set, keyboards of the 60s/70s, bass and drums, and session expansion cards, plus vintage keyboard module, or an Ensoniq TS10, with expansions if possible, and either a TR rack or a jv1080/2080 with same cards. Will pay if this is uneven. I am just trying to find something that is better for me to use. Yamaha sounds great but I think the user interface is too confusing for me, and I miss my old gear. If you want to call me, contact me at 732-225-5080 after 5 P.M. or 732-937-6394 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Email me at email_address_removed or email_address_removed. While it's definitely not Prog with a capital P, "Let it Flow" (track six, I believe) is damn close. The whole album is well-crafted and skillfuly played to say the least. Bruce Kulick, in addition to being one of my favorite guitarists of all time, is surprisingly non-rock-star, and the whole band treated me as if I were their fifth member. Actually, some time ago, Open All Night Records posted a set list of a Savatage gig played in France recently. (At the time, I e-mailed them about the show, and they said that they'd be issuing it in December). Anyway, the show had a KILLER set list (I wish that I had copied it down), and if I remember correctly, the band performed X-Mas Eve/Sarajevo at that show. I am really looking forward to hearing this, and I hope that the December boot- release date they gave me is accurate. Also, I don't think that this has been posted yet, but this appeared in the most recent issue of Metal Edge during the 1998 Year in Review section: [Mike is] looking forward to "doing a Liquid Tension Experiment tour in January, the next DT album (we have some cool stuff up our sleeves), and most importantly, the birth of my second child - and my first boy! - in March." The damn Lotto twice i say! :) What about Frank Zappa? He wrote a song "Wind Up Working at a Gas Station" Frank printed all the counterfeit money used to fund that Lootto :) Ok, in another unrelated story, allow me to once again don my marketing cap: Notice how some of the gas stations have those adorable little video screens now to inundate the brain-dead sheep with various subliminal messages about buying the latest 80W90 rear end oil (for the rear end of a CAR, ya perv! :)..... Well, here's a thought (the cranially advanced are probably a paragaph of thought ahead of me, but...): Pump [:)] DT through those videos! Ok, just to show you I can every much as prejudiced as anyone else on the jam: The type of music is a function of the grade of gas purchased and obeys the following generalized formula: SHRED FACTOR = (1 / OCTANE) That's inversely proportional, you stupid putz! Try logging off and doing you homework once and while, instead of begging the dealer for another rock :) The reasoning is as follows: Rich people are stuffy old eccentrics and can't appreciate shred. Rich people must not be allowed to appreciate DT full-on. Poor people can't afford high test. Poor people understand what it means to suffer, and appreciate the things in life that TRULY matter. Therefore, poor people listen to cool music. You do want people to return to the pumps, so playing the appropriate songs is critical. With that in mind I propose rotating setlists, an example of which might be: Unleaded Regular -> Under A Glass Moon Unleaded Premium -> Wait For Sleep Leaded Regular ---> Paradigm Shift :) <-- cuz we all know really really cool people still run them old V8 muscle cars and like to go FAST! Electric Cars/Ethanol/and other alternative fuels ---> Chromakey :) Upgrades to the system, you ask? No problem: a camera is installed to analyze the make/model of car being filled as well as the individual pumping. After running the output of the image processor into the prejudice algorithm, a profile about the pumper is formed, so as to select the appropriate tune. An example might be, oh, let's say, showing the "Condom Scene" from Live In Tokyo, whenever a pimp mobile pulls up. The generalized formula for this is left as an excercise for the reader....Hint: if you manage to solve it, you must be working at a Gas Station and have wayyyyy too much time on your hands :) Disclaimer: None....have at it! mikE signatured: > "May God stand between you and harm > In all the empty places where you must walk..." Consider the perspective of someone who bases their opinion just on the above, and you already understand the audience you're dealing with. So, I decided to give you a bit more of information about this very original band (which some argue that has just started a new branch in heavy metal). The information that follows comes from my homepage dedicated to Nectar, the Opeth mailing list, were I also give some background on the band. The page features links to other homepages and also to their 3 full-lenght albums on CD Now. I expect to be adding links to other side projects/special participations to the homepage very soon. The URL of the page is: . Hope this helps, Roger... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Who is Opeth Opeth is a Swedish band which could be described as a heavy metal band, but this description wouldn't really do any justice to the special kind of music that they play: their music transcends categorization, for it blends elements from 70's progressive rock with elements from the 80's traditional heavy rock, jazz, classical music (mainly from the Baroque era), and 90's death and black metal. Their compositions are usually very long (for example, every track from the "Morningrise" album is above the 10 minute mark, with one song even clocking at over 20 minutes), and they usually let the listener experience many mood changes, in what could be described as true "journeys" of many discoveries. The songs (which are very complex and whose transitions never let the listener be bored) have both fast, energetic passages and a-capella singing and acoustic interludes. The vocals (ranging from growls to clean singing) are usually very sparse in the songs, with most of the music being instrumental, in the very same fashion that the 70's progressive rock bands (like Camel, for instance) composed their songs. The focus of the music is both on the technical aspects of the music and on emotion. Also, their compositions aren't suited for background music listening, since they demand considerable attention from the listener to the number of details present in each song. The focus on emotion is clear after listening just to a few minutes of the albums: the fast passages convey profound sadness, despair, and hate to the listener, while the incredibly beautiful, melodic acoustic parts transmit the feelings of loneliness, and sorrow. Overall, the music has a very dark atmosphere, but everything is done with taste. The albums feature excellent production, that helps the listener pick the details present in the songs, even during the heaviest passages. I seriously invite the reader to experience such magic moments from an incredibly talented and creative band, which probably won't have the opportunity of selling many copies of their records. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Rogerio Brito - email_address_removed.br - http://www.ime.usp.br/~rbrito Undergraduate Computer Science Student - "Windows?
