Long time, no type. First of all, I'd like to apologize right up front here if this mail has that mime crap attached. I'm at work, and using Micro$oft Outlook, which has got to be the least user-friendly e-mail program I have ever seen. I'd give a major organ or two to be able to work at a DEC VT-102 instead of NT. Yuck. Anyway, I know I've been out of commission for a while. I had been mooching my former roommate's ISP account, until it expired in October. A search for a new ISP at home proved unproductive at best. ("L-i-n-u-x.... No, it doesn't run *with* Windows. It runs *instead* of Windows.... You don't *have* to support it. Just give me an IP number.") So, we're painting my house this weekend, after which I will do some hardware upgrades to the box at home, so that I can temporarily install Windows 98 to make some ISP happy for long enough to come install a cable modem, and then I'll be online again. In the meantime, obvoiusly, I can't read mail from home. I'm at work right now, and it's a great job, but I can't receive outside mail at this account (go ahead and try, but I'll never see it), and, even worse, I can't telnet out. (Skadz is probably ready to kill me because of all the old mail taking up disk space on his box.) On top of all that, I have met a most incredible woman, so even if I had the opportunity to get to my e-mail, I probably would find it difficult to find the time. What I'm trying to say is that it ain't easy to get in touch with me these days. :) If you want to write to say hi, you can send a message (500 characters or less, Swifty :) to my pager (address below). And if you *really* need to get to me, you can call me at work (from 10 to 6), but don't be offended if I randomly hang up on you. I'll be at the LI Drum Center clinic on 12/1. Hope to see a bunch of you there. Um, go Giants, or something. -d Christopher Merlo Waterhouse Securities, Inc., IS Production Group Office: 201.369.8314 Fax: 201.332.5788 Pager: 888.422.0526 Text Pager: email_address_removed #include<$HOME/.clever_tagline> ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Nov 1998 10:22:36 -0500 From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: Alder/Arch Message-ID: > I always find it interesting that Fates Warning went from being a metal > band with a prog singer (Arch era), to a prog band with a more metal > singer (Alder) >< > > I think it has more to do with the likes of Zonder, vera, etc. I wasn't suggesting that Alder was the *cause* of the evolution, just that it was an interesting juxtaposition. ___Pat Sullivan_______________ Email: email_address_removed ICQ: 2049374 WWW: http://www.just-like.nu ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Nov 1998 10:23:33 -0500 From: "TheCowGod" To: "Ytsejam" Subject: keyboards Message-ID: <003901be1499$be808c80$message_id_removed> hey hey keys players (korg? damon?), i'm considering buying a cheap workstation so i can write music and stuff. i'd like it to have workstaton capabilities, i.e. sequencing, patch editing, and GM so i can hook it up to my computer, a disk drive would be nice too, and also quite cheap, because i don't play keys professionally or anything, i'm mainly a guitarist. i just want something where i can mess around and write stuff. i use cakewalk but it's not that easy to write inspired music when you have to click "half note, G, quarter note, F, dotted eigth note, C, dammit i fucked up, delete note..." So basically, what are the cheapest workstations out there that are worth buying? i'm trying to stay away from the cheap yamaha "yes, even you can play like a pro" kind of keyboards :) but yeah, i'm not too sure what there is on the low end of workstations - my only experience is with the korg X3 and roland xp-50 they had at school. thanks. moo. *** END OF TRANSMISSION *** ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Nov 1998 16:34:48 +0100 (CET) From: Peter Geerts To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: Re: Italianprog Message-ID: On Wed, 18 Nov 1998, Rahul Ananda wrote: > This dude I know is going to Italy. Can't think of anybody who can top them. Someone finally mentioned one my favorite drummers! VINNIE COLAIUTA! This guy blew my mind the first time I watched Sting's "Ten Summoners Tales" video! Solo Sting just wouldn't have any musical depth without Vinnie. The guy is a master of off time rythems and complex jazz stuff. If anyone here hasn't seen the "Ten Summoners Tales" video, go out and buy it RIGHT NOW! Besides Vinnie and Sting, the rest of his group (Dominic Miller on geetar, and David Sancious on keys) are also top notch musicians. Does anyone know who else Vinnie has played with? I would love to hear how he handles heavier stuff... Josh S. I don't understand. At the time of the first return, does the band have to return their royalty? Usually, when you return a product, the store can send it back to the manufacturer so that they can get reimbursed in turn. Is the case in the recording industry? If so, does the band get to keep their share anyway? Or must they return their royalties for that returned product? If they *don't* have to return those royaltees, then wouldn't the band be profiting twice from the same disc? If the argument is that used cd buyers should try to buy new, to help the band out, I don't think that's fair. Do you not buy stuff on sale? Do you not try for a lower price on your new car, even thought the difference will come right out of the dealer's margin? The customer has to look out for No.1, especially if the customer plans to buy more stuff in the future. -- Joshua Rasiel email_address_removed www.j51.com/~mrasiel "Shop Smart.
