You get the idea! Check out the link below, and cast your vote, I'm sure there's enough dedicated fans here to open someone's eyes at Rolling Stone. http://www.rollingstone.com/sections/magazine/text/rspoll9.html?afl=rsn ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Oct 1998 01:35:45 -0600 From: email_address_removed (Dale R Newberry) To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: Phish Message-ID: >whoa! somebody has issues. i must say that it sucks that your stores >don't have the video; however, this particular dream-theater-loving hippie >who thinks phish are a pretty damn good prog band (now THERE'S a statement >that will get some flames thrown! :) might suggest that you take your >disappointment out on someone else; i mean, i'd be pretty psyched to >live in a town of 30,000 hippies over say 30,000 fans of rap or country. but >hey, whatever makes you feel better, that's what's important. oh, and >congratulations on your perfect mastery of the use of the word 'fuck'. > a great achievement. :) I mgiht get a few falmes myself, but I want to second that a little bit. One of my roomamtes and I went to a Phish listening party earlier tonight. While one of the songs (don't know off hand which one since I don't have the new album yet) was playing, he made a copmment to me that it sounded like they (the drummer ion particular) must have been listening to some Rush lately. It sounded quite a bit more aggressive (the drumming) than normal. And yes, I dig Phish (and many other "jam bands") quite a little bit. However, I also currently live in a college town with 30,000 (exaggeration, of course :) hippies, and I found two copies of the video at one of the local (i.e. smaller) stores just down the road (the guy at the store also asked me if I had the CD yet). Needless to say, I picked one up (the store is Now Hear This in Columbia, MO if anyone's curious). I also did just get confirmation that my OIAL order has been shipped, so it should arrive in a few days. A little later than I had hoped, but I think I can deal with it :). Dale R. But if its not Tim, I'm out of guesses. What songs >did he play Stick on? Curious Me. Yeah, that sounds right. I really wasnt paying attention, but he played a bitching solo right before charging into...arg, its so hard to try to remember with SG - Tyranny blasting in the background...Lemme turn it down :) Now that I think about it, he pretty much played the CS throughout the show. So that would mean all the standards like Too Much, Ants Marching, So Much To Say (the previous three, if you were wondering, completely stole the show), and others off the new album like Dont Drink The Water and Stay. I heard a rumor that Dave Matthews was a major heroin addict...Is there any truth to this? Oh, and for DTC, Im waiting (not so) patiently for my OiaLT. And the beginning of track 3 of SG - Tyranny sounds just like Cliffhanger from their CiS album. Great stuff though. Cheers. This apparently saddened him - why? I am not obliged to buy everything that the band and their record label put out (this applies to all bands, of course, and not just to Dream Theater). Perhaps it's because I'm older (40), but I just can't relate to this "we've got to support the band" attitude. If I like it, I'll buy it, otherwise the album stays in the shop. Am I a fan, Manuel asks? Yes, I would consider myself a fan - I immensly enjoy the albeit rare occasions on which a Dream Theater CD makes it into my stereo, and Dream Theater is without doubt one of the best live acts I've seen in 27 years of concert-going. Meeting the guys and having a few beers with them has added to my enjoyment of their live performances. Fan enough for you, Manuel? Or do you want me to buy the forthcoming 78 minute CD of Mike Portnoy farting 12th notes on the shitter after having eaten a Bombay Vindaloo? To sum up, the band will get my support if I like what they are doing, but I don't owe them a living. Dream Theater won't last for ever - who will you support then? Are Enchant really the opener for Spock's Beard? Bad news - I guess I'll just have to go to the show on Sunday late. stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: Anathema - Alternative 4 ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Oct 1998 11:28:13 +0200 From: Sbu To: email_address_removed Subject: Demo mp3 Message-ID: Hi. KICK AFRICAN ASS! You sound better here then on LTE! Mike Portnoy is the God of Drums! Well, New Millennium isn't on it and almost nothing from WDADU (which I like more than IAW and Awake, and I'm constantly surprised at how underrated it is), but what would they remove? Well, maybe Caught in a Web... and there's no Majesty symbol on the front. I actually like the outline font on UACM better, guys. But most of you don't seem to agree... Oh well, big deal. Fact is this is the best music in the world. I know already that this is my favorite album - EVER! DT OiaLT is the new Champion! And they got all the power and stuff from the albums! This way we don't have to scroll pass the stuff we don't want to read just to read one single topic. Just click on the topic and we're forwarded to that topic. That shouldn't be too much of a problem to incorporate in the mailingscript. One argument against this proposal that I can think of would be that it would be a mess for the browsers that don't have html-capabilities. Just curious, Matt, if you had a chance to talk Mike about his opinion of Dave's drumming. Dave impresses me everytime I see him with Finn, and he just re-arranged my jaw when he played live alongside Morse/Larue with basically no rehearsal (except the soundcheck, I guess :) > BTW, My name is Matt, I'm a drummer from Boston, in a band called EVENT, check > us out at www.mysticfishook.com Do what he says......NOW!!!! ;) I recommend their disc. Plenty of shred, plenty of prog, hopefully enough variety to satisfy even the finnickiest of jammers, plenty of that ever-illusive Berklee guarantee, plenty of emotion, plenty of skanky swing ho beeeyotches hanging outside the gigs :) I have the older disc (when they were called Mystic Fishook) and the production was quite good, especially considering they did it themselves with homebrew equipment!
