It seems the CD player on my workstation at work will not play the second OiaL CD past 3/4 of the way through Learning to Live! :-( It just stops! I guess that is the danger of squeezing 80 minutes of music onto a CD. Hopefully my other CD players will not have any trouble with the long play. I found "5 Years In a Livetime" at Newbury Comics! I guess I know what I am doing tonight! :-) Incidentally, Newbury Comics also had OiaL for $18! Not bad at all. Derek really shines on these CDs! Actually, the entire band was in excellent form for this concert! The Petrucci solo just blew me away! One more thing, was the sax in TAMP an overdub or was Jay Beckenstein really in Paris with DT? Sorry if this has already been covered on the Jam :-) Josh ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Oct 1998 16:35:44 -0500 From: "TheCowGod" To: Subject: Re: MP Fessed Up On This One. Kevin V. posted the following discs for sale: >> Angra-Angels Cry $13 >> Angra-Holy Live $10 >> Angra-Holy Land (2 cd set w/ Bonus track on Holy Land (Queen of the >> Night) and 2nd disc with Live Acoustic At FNAC with the following Tracks >> (1)Angels Cry (2)Chega de Saudade (3)Never Understand) (I believe this >> 2cd set is no longer in print, someone let me know if I'm wrong) $27 and then Jeremy Hallum responded: > Wow, not only a price inflated sale, but an HTML encoded price >inflated sale! ooo! >Lets see what the new prices of these CD's are! > (from www.empireent.com:) > Angra-Angel's Cry (Ital Import) $13.98 > Angra-Holy Live (Ital Import) w/ slip case and sticker. $10.98. > Angra-Freedom Call (Ital) 6 track EP w/three acoustic tracks $10.98 Three points: 1) I have dealt with Kevin on at least ten separate occasions. In every case the CDs I received on my end were essentially brand-new: the only thing that showed they were used CDs was the fact that they had no shrink wrap. No scratches on the CD or case, no fingerprints on the jewel cases, no hints that the discs had even been listened to. 2) Kevin's deals on shipping are better than the ones you'll get from most CD stores. Try figuring that in and see how much of a "deal" you get buying the discs new. 3) Jeremy's choice 2 and 3 don't match Kevin's choice 2 and 3. "Holy Live" is not the same as "Holy Land", and "Freedom Call" is not the same as "Live Acoustic at FNAC". Plus, the double-CD version of "Holy Land" has the bonus track "Queen of the Night" (one of the best on the disc IMHO), which has not been released on any other CD to the best of my knowledge. In sum, buying from Kevin is definitely worth it. ta, Phil ================================================== Phil Carter -- Usefulware Tech Support -- email_address_removed "Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life." -- Berthold Auerbach ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Oct 1998 14:53:02 -0800 (PST) From: ytse jam To: email_address_removed Subject: Top 20! Track 5 (Hope for Us?) - the piano intro: same chord progression as Alanis Morissette's "Uninvited" (City of Angels Soundtrack). Track 5 (Hope for Us?) - about 3:35: the keyboards sound a lot like GnR in "November Rain" (not to be blasphemous :) ). Track 6 (Victims) - the whole intro: the same chord progression as a section in DT's "Erotomania" (I think someone mentioned this before). Track 6 (Victims) - about 4:00: the guitar sounds like Dave Matthews' vocals at the end of "The Dreaming Tree" ("Oh, if I had the strength...") And WTF!! CDNow hasn't sent me my OiaLT CD (I did get it FedEx'ed!!) :( Well anyway, for those of you who enjoy a good concept album (and judging by the responses to SG's "Tyranny", I'd assume that's most of you), Fear Factory's "Obsolete" is great! A little different from Tyranny, of course, because FF is definitely far more straight-up whoop-ass metal than SG, (SG's of course way more prog), and the ideas are different. The album is based on Orwell's "1984", and deals with a man being a "virtual slave" to a machine. Very cool music (especially if you like double bass - Raymond Herrera is THE DB god!), if you like the "full-ass metal onslaught" genre, like Pantera, late Slayer, AJFA Metallica, etc., with the growling vocals like Pantera. The song "Resurrection" is definitely worth a listen, even if you don't like Fear Factory. Also, "Timelessness" is just KB's and vox, a very pretty, eerie song that concludes the album, and sounds uncannily like VAST (Jon Crosby's new project). Very cool! I really dig that dude..... If memory serves, Mike Mangini plays on a number of tracks off of Mike Keneally's latest, "Sluggo". Keneally played with Frank Zappa, plays just about every instrument, and his releases are pretty intense. I read a review of "Sluggo" by Modern Drummer, and they said that Mangini was amazing on it. I have yet to pick it up, yet, unfortunately. So many CDs, so little time. Sorry if this has already been covered on No, it was an overdub. Whatever happened to the Jazz teacher from England or whatever who played the sax originally? Did he just absolutely blow ass or something? :) Just curious as to why they'd plop some vintage Jay B. stuff in there. Jay B. rocks. My only complaint is that he cut off every melody just as James started singing again. It would've been nice to have him fade back as James starting singing his verse. The straight cutoff is kind of corny, IMO. It's like musical blueballs to me. >I must have been asleep. I need to renew my subscription...I think. What's >the deal????
