All of us have our very own and unique way of counting some very close to traditional methods Re: 9/8 counted in groups of three. and some off the wall wacky stuff Re: 9/8 counting 121212312 thats wacked. Anyone having problems counting odd times start the traditional method it is almost always the best. The latter 9/8 is just where the accents are and if you always count it that way you will be stuck in the song Voices for every 9/8 song you play. To finish this just learn traditionally either though a teacher or student of music, after awhile you will develop what way will work better for you. This cd sure is unique. I would $100 that 99% of the people who liked Behind will not like this cd on the first liste. I'm as open minded as any prog listener and I didn't even it too much on the first listen even though I knew to expect something different. Well the good news is... ..after a few more listens this cd just gets better and better. Imagine the heaviness and progressiveness of Behind...then combine it with many more different styles and moods. They take so many different chances on this cd and almost every one of them works. Some people might shy away from the funk and swing sections but this cd is definitely a winner overall. It's TRULY PROGRESSIVE because they're incorporating so many different sounds and styles and effects into their music. In that aspect it reminds me very much of Angra's Holy Land (don't misinterpret me here...it doesn't sound at all like Holy Land, but the idea of incorporating new sounds into standard metal is similar). I'm wasting a lot of your time here so I'll make this quick. I need to get a decent jazz axe (archtop, preferably NOT semi-hollow - I will only be using it for jazz/fusion) and I need some good resources. Other than the Chicagoland shops, I've only found one reasonably useful online dealer of used jazz axes. My range is $2K or less (preferably LESS)... Does anyone know of any good sites that deal with the sale of such pieces? Also, beyond playability and sound, does anyone know of any important things to watch for when buying an archtop? Currently looking at the Ibanez PM100, a few Gibson 175's and one sweet Yamaha with a piezo and neck mounted pickup. Check out Blue Rondo a la Turk by Dave Brubeck. It's a real fast 9/8 counted 1-2 1-2 1-2 1-2-3. Or, somewhat closer to home, the beginning of Voices is also an oddly subdivided 9/8 . Did any of you guys notice all the fucknuts on the Awake tour trying to headbang when they started playing this? I clearly recall seeing a sea of sweaty heads frantically bobbing along, and then that extra eighth note throws 'em all off. It takes a few seconds for them to re-orient themselves in the groove, the head bobs, maybe twice, before the phrase resolves again, and said fucknuts are lost once more. Isn't swearing banned on this list anyway? While I don't nessecarily agree with my love-scarred friend, I can definitly see his point; which was, in case you missed it, that if he had a choice between music and 'pussy', that he would pick music. And I totally agree with that, music doesn't cheat on me or let me down, music is the only thing that constantly gives me joy and happiness. THAT was the point of his post, and I hate it when people jump down the throat of someone who has the balls to say that love isn't all flowers and candy. LOVE STINKS! It (usually) causes nothing but heartache, depression, bad grades, and billions of other negative connotations. So I'm sorry to say, but music blows love out of the water. What I don't agree with is that all love is dead. I know plenty of people that have found love in one way or another, and it _does_ exist, although it is rare. The truth is that 99.8% of all women are bitches, and you just have to sloth through all the crap in order to find the One that will make you happy.
