Message-ID: Hey guys - about 2 years ago, on the jam, we set up a tape tree where people would put some great songs on tapes and trade them with other jammers. I'm trying to track down who sent me a particular tape. Unfortunately, I've lost the tape, so I only can do this from memory. The contents of the tape were, among other things: Blind Guardian, The Gathering, Tiamat, Opeth, Moonspell, Dark Tranquility...??? That's all that comes to mind. If these bands ring a bell and you think you might have made this tape for me way back when, please contact me. I've got some questions for ya! Thanks! - Dr. Teeth P.S. Isn't it time for another one of these tape trading trees??? ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Oct 1998 09:55:06 -0400 From: "Anderson, Brian D" To: "'email_address_removed'" Subject: LTE2 Message-ID: > Wow, > > That's cool...I guess LTE2 sessions must be going on back in > Millbrook again, what with MP in that corner of the world. > (I don't know if anyone had mentioned where LTE2 was > going down.) > > -Rob Well, here's what Tony says . . . Some have asked who is Laura Jaeger, who sings the duet with Mike Baker on the song Spoken Words, off the Tyranny CD by Shadow Gallery. She's an old friend of Gary Wehrkamp's from a while back, and I believe that Gary told me they used to perform in a band together way back when. This song is one of my fave tracks off Tyranny, gives me chills everytime I hear it. I don't know if I agree with this or not. I think it would depend on whether or not the members had gotten together ten years later and formed Dream Theater or if they had been born ten years later and followed the same path that they all did. In the former case, I think they'd be a lot like they are today (maybe a little more like LTE than anything else). In the latter case, I think they'd be a lot more like Tool than they are now. But I don't think the core 'progressiveness' of the band (and by 'progressiveness', I mean the mythical, etherial stuff that makes DT what they are) would be compromised in either case. Just my $.02. And I'm listening to "Show Me What You Can Do..." with Stu Hamm, Frank Gambale and Steve Smith. So here's the inevitabe comparison between SMWYCD and Vital Tech Tones: stronger performance by Smith this time around as opposed to Vital Tech Tones - he seems to be more comfortable with the improvised jazz format begun in VTT, and this time lets loose a little more. Hamm seems to be more up front than Wooten was, but I think that has a lot to do with his tone - it's a lot snappier and brighter than Wooten's. Gambale's tone has more chorus on it than Henderson's, which fills up a lot of the space on the tracks. The songs seem a little slower and laid back, and the tracks don't seem as strong as they were on VTT (maybe because they seem a little jazzier and less rocky), but the sound of the musicians seems a little better, and compensates for it. If you liked VTT, it's worth checking out. Crimson rehearsals in Nashville were interesting - but as often happens, after much making of music, we're not quite sure what we'll be playing on tour later this month. My book went off to the printer's yesterday -- it's going to be a crunch getting it printed and shipped to Woodstock in time for first orders - perhaps unwisely I took an ad for it in Bass Player Magazine which hits the subscribers at end of October. Seemed, at the time, that I'd have it done by mid October. I'm a pretty new WinAmp user, and I've got a question regarding playing multiple MP3s in a row (specifically MP3s on CDR). When the next song starts, the wave balance resets to the maximum setting. It would be right up Tool's alley to do something like that. They're very into pointing out how most people let others do their thinking for them/make their decision for them. So they write a song that is meant to evoke images of a nazi party rally and see who notices. __Pat Sullivan________________ Email: psull@just-like.nu WWW: http://www.just-like.nu ICQ: 2049374 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Oct 1998 13:01:26 -0700 From: "Christopher Stearns" To: Subject: Re: YTSEJAM digest 4335 Message-ID: > > Well, I have this to say about JP: The first time I REALLY noticed JP's > skills was in "Pull Me Under" (just before the chorus, each time), and I > was amazed even there, because I have never once heard anybody play at the > speed in which he does.
