I've just seen one of the most amazing and meaningful concert experiences of my life. I just saw SAVATAGE play their 1st EVER acoustic show in the US!! Words cannot describe how deep their music touches me...only a handful of bands can do that. To see them in a little hole-in-the-wall bar that fits 75 people is just awesome considering that a month earlier I saw them in front of 20,000 people at Wacken :) The stage was so small it was ridiculous (probably about 10 feet by 30 feet) but it wasnt that bad cuz they all sat on benches. Chris was totally acoustic while Al played clean without distortion. I found out that it was also being broadcast LIVE on the radio!?!? ARGGHHHHHHH....nobody told me earlier :(((( But..I did see that the band was videotaping it..so hopefully it will pop up in the trading circles soon. Here's the setlist: The Ocean (intro) Welcome Jesus Saves (sounded amazing w/ a different structure!) Chance <-- with the harmonies of course!!! Silk And Steel (Al and Chris shredding it up) Stare Into The Sun Not What You See --Now this next part literally had me soaring. The rest of the band left the stage leaving Jon alone with his piano. Just amazing..... **Jon's Piano Medley** Mentally Yours (intro only) Tonight He Grins Again A Little Too Far New York City Don't Mean Nothing If I Go Away Heal My Soul .and of course....Believe (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Handful Of Rain Sleep (Jon and Zak trading off vocals) **ENCORE** (This part they did electric!) Al's guitar solo (it was part of WoM I believe) The Wake of Magellan (this song just f*ckin' rules!!!!!!!!) Nothing Going On ** 2nd Encore Dead Winter Dead As you can see no "Mountain King" :(..but all the "Streets" material more than made up for it! One thing I love about this band is that they truly look like they are having FUN on stage. Laughing, smiling (despite the horrible conditions) and making fun of each other....it was refreshing to see that. Also got an awesome picture of me and the Mountain King himself....Jon Oliva! (hopefully the roadie didnt chop our heads off like some other ppl I know >:) Jon was very surprised when I told him I'd seen them a month earlier at the Wacken festival in Germany. anyway...the show ruled and I feel like kicking myself at not seeing them every chance I get (they play in NY quite often). Still the orchestra plays.... (ALL HAIL CRISS OLIVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!) cheers, Carlo (Fates) NP: ANATHEMA "Pentecost III" -- "When you know that your time is close at hand maybe then you'll begin to understand Life down here is just a strange illusion." --IRON MAIDEN (Hallowed Be Thy Name) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Sep 1998 19:56:35 +0200 From: Mark Bredius To: "'Ytsejam'" Subject: Platypus release dates Message-ID: Nikki Brooks wrote : > I have the promo CD of Platypus. Incidentally, if you're interested in trading I'll be up and running shortly, so drop me a private email or wait until I put a list together on the web for your convenience.. In other news, the new Superior album is fantastic; a very strong, evolved second effort that retains enough of the "Behind" sound to sate fans of the first album while exploring plenty of new ground. Bravo! In addition, while I am not an expert in this area, the production quality is excellent; the CD just sounds great. Had to get rid of that. APSOG is where the music stops and where Jim M. is completely gone stupid. So much of that album is filler. three tracks worth listening, the rest?? whats that? wheres the metal in it? wasnt FW a metal band- they were. Awaken the Guardian ranges in my fave ten alltime albums. so dont even think about flaming me -this here just represents my opinion (BTW im getting bored of telling this every time when i post, seems like its time to leave here...) and ive listened to APSOG for about 30 times every time the complete thing, but it is just disappointing. and if i ever get the chance to talk to Jim ill ask him who the f*** sh*t in his brain. i understand (since i am musician as well) that you can get bored playing the same old songs over and over again. but some of his interviews just made me cry. i couldnt believe it s the same human being once giving us masterpieces like Epitaph. huhuhuhhuuuuu! :-(......... Parallels has ingenious songwriting, not APSOG, IMO. they ve come to a point where its totally senseless what they are doing and i wonder if Jim ever listens to APSOG at home. but maybe there will come the day when he gets bored of playing APSOG as well and we get real music again from the (better, which means fifteen years earlier) world's (almost) leading Prog Metal band. wooooaaaaah i feel so much better. and i love telling this here, cos evryone skips my posts, hehehe. thanks for those reading, i dont care bout your opinions. A trailer park. Two rival groups, we'll use the word "clans" without the conehead connotations here, for reasons undisclosed went to war with each other. Half the trailerpark went at the other half armed with assorted garden tools. You know, the sort of thing with which peasants attacked Frankenstein's castle.
