They will all be filmed in New Zealand by Peter Jackson. *Sean Connery will NOT be playing Gandalf (Jackson himself has confirmed this). The main characters will all be played by unknowns, although there may be familiar faces in supporting roles. *Filming begins (I believe) next year, with the first film being released in 2000. They will then be released a few months apart. *Hobbits and other short people will be played by normal-sized actors who will appear to be short via special effects. That sums up what I know so far. For the score I'd prefer someone like Danny Elfman or Elliot Goldenthal or Jerry Goldsmith or someone like that. John Williams might be OK but I'd say his score would just be the usual overblown piece of work (which is not to say that I don't like him, I do, he's one of the best in the business, but I don't think his style would suit). I hope this all helps. Well, cheerio. Lots of really heavy/chunky guitars, great melodies and some very unusual stuff inbetween like the background vocals and horns on "Free minded" and "Detect: myself". Track 3 "Nothing" and tr.10 "This promise" remind me of Empire-era-Queensryche, especially "This promise" has a "Silent lucidity" feeling, without beeing a rip-off. Overall a great metal-CD with a very modern touch. 10/10 One more thing - Bernd if you read this: Gratulation zu diesem genialen Album, jetzt muesst ihr nur noch in Muenchen spielen! - Music for my last hour alive: I guess "Temple of the dog" would be my choice. DT would be so obvious, but... DT music is just _so_ positive, I&W would make me want to live on. For the same reason I'd chose not to have a last meal or have sex for a last time, it would just increase the wish not to go. A nice dram of 21 year old Springbank and "Temple of the dog" could bring me in the right mood. Anathema and Tool would also be possible choices. Hmmm, doesn't sound that bad maybe I call Dr.Kevorkian tonight.... Or I just watch CNN until i puke myself to death... - Lord of the Rings: check the interview with Peter Jackson at http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/ Excerpts: there will be 3 movies - that means approx. 6h for the whole story and since there doesn't happen too much, the first book will be cut down to a prologue.. And: Sean Connery will _not_ be cast as Gandalf. Jackson wants to give the whole thing a more _realistic_ touch as opposed to all the fairytale-fantasy-films => LotR should get more of a "Braveheart" feeling instead of the "Willow" style. That would imho leave an opportunity for a rather modern soundtrack in the vain of Progrock acts like Dream Theater... although I'd prefer Blind Guardian to do the job (somebody send Peter Jackson a tape of "Nightfall.."!) - Favorite films/movies is this off-topic or what... . if you care for my taste e-mail me privately read you - jerry :--) NP: Primus - Rhinoplasty -- --------------------------------------------------------------- Andreas Schaefer jerry@muc.de ...bei 200 Grad 15 Minuten backen, und keine Eier! - Tool --------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Sep 1998 13:29:23 +0200 (CEST) From: email_address_removed.hu To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: Re: last rites.... But, even if Jackson makes 3 movies @ 2 hrs apiece, they're still going to have to cut 40% of each novel, and believe it or not, timing is important in storytelling. I'd like to see how they depict the ringwraiths, but (again, IMO) they can't do better than the animated version. Nuff said. If I had to choose one album before ending it all, it would have to be something depressing enough to convince me life was not worth sticking around. Therefore, in all good conscience, I could not choose DT because it inspires a zest for life. My first choice would be Roger Waters' opus Amused to Death (I'd still want a couple of repeat listens). Second choice would be Peter Gabriel's Passion Soundtrack, which is really too good. A good final song is Pearl Jam's "Indifference" but the rest of Vs. is too uplifting (maybe not lyricwise, but in terms of overall feel, the band is having fun). BTW-I sent my review of DT's set that I posted here > the morning after the show I went to to the Highway Star......maybe they'll post it? Someone corrected that the guy meant "improvement". Anyway, even if he meant "improvisation" it doesn't have to mean negative comment. On the end, he would be kinda right. While it's true that DT try to refresh their song, but c'mon, can you really improvise a solo like on classical rock song (Smoke on the Water...). Nope! The rhythm, breaks, Petrucci's solos are all based on it and if he just dares to improvise here there goes he down the ...whatever. :) He CANNOT improvise alot on Metropolis or UAGM kinda solos. Now, this should be literally taken. If Petrucci read this maybe he'll get pissed-off, go up there and prove us all wrong. ;) Dushko -- \|/ _____________________________o_o_______ <| \ / |> <| "Chuck! Chuck!
