The poster is insert from the Awake Album (the band with Kevin in the back middle) but with the FII font across it. At the bottom of the poster it says, "Falling into Infinity." Needless to say it looks strange as hell. Power of Omens-Eye of the Beholder This cd is awesome. Take old Queensryche progress in a heavier and more technical direction, add a little Latin/Mexican musical influence and you get the new disc from the Texas band Power of Omens. This is definitely the best cd of the 9 (yes, only 9) cds that I picked up at Powermad. It may become my pick as the best cd of the year. If you got their demo awhile back and thought that was good, this cd is 100 times better. My 12 disc car changer has been stuck on this cd since Friday. Aztec Jade-Frame of Mind This cd is very good. The vocalist sounds even better than he does live. His voice isn't typical prog-metalish (ie, Tate, Labrie, Midnight). The supporting cast is very good. Get this cd if you want to listen to something new that isn't a rehash of another band. Symphony X-Twilight in Olympus This cd is typical S-X. If you liked DWOT this follows right in its footsteps. Angra-Freedom Call This is an EP with a couple remixed songs including a remix of their cover of Judas Priests Painkiller (which is done very well compared to the original). Also on this are 3 live acoustic tracks. Definitely worth the $8 I paid for it. More reviews coming later... The Not-So-Obvious Lorenna McKennitt (god... what a voice) The singer from 'The Gathering' whose name escapes me The Spice Girls (ok, kidding on this one) Whitney Houston (For some reason, I think she'd make a great singer alongside JLB - call me crazy). I'll tell you why: Someone posted their review of Powermad 98. Said poster recommended a band called Ion Vein, and even went as far as to offer a website (http://www.ionvein.com) where I could check them out. It sounded like we shared the same interest, so I went there. I really like what I hear, so much that I'm willing to buy an album. Without the constant exposure to new music from the Ytsejam, I would be as narrow-minded as some listeners claim to be. Thanks to Ytsejam, I've discovered Symphony X, Enchant, Arkhe, Hydrotoxin, and several other artists that have enhanced my appreciation of prog. So we have to be doing SOMETHING right here, gals and guys. ------------- "I am shocked, shocked to find gambling going on in here!" --Renault, 'Casablanca' ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Aug 1998 20:09:29 +0200 From: Mark Bredius To: "'Ytsejam'" Subject: Kevin Moore chat today Message-ID: Can someone please log today's Talk City chat with Kevin Moore for me ? Hope it helps. All opinions are mine (tm). The ultimate Christian progressive metal band is Saviour Machine. They carefully straddle a thin line between progressive art rock and progressive metal. Their early work Saviour Machine I is very much metal. Saviour Machine II adds more complexity and progressiveness to the music but remains very much metal, if even slightly lighter. Legend Part I and Legend Part II are the first two parts (75+ minutes each) of a progressive metal concept trilogy. They are very dark and atmospheric; very intense. Similar in mood to Fate's APSOG. http://www.saviourmachine.com Atomic Opera - similar to King's X and Galactic Cowboys. Vocal harmonies out the wazoo. http://members.aol.com/feverdreme/aohomepage.html Believer - Complex and trashy near-death metal (I don't have this, I've only heard it) Deliverance - Semi-progressive thrash metal (I don't have this, I've only heard it) Digital Ruin - QR and DT influence very strong. Labrie like vocals. Contains a strong Fates Warning mood of darkness.
