After reading my musings on the "drummers of Symphony X" mess, Joe D. inquired: > The guy from TiO (Tom Walling) left already? According to sometime 'jammer Steve Vogel, who works with Russell at a day job, Tom left the band because he had "commitments" which would keep him from touring. So Jason Rullo rejoined. I don't know the circumstances because I was already off the Symphony X mailing list by the time this discussion started. Steve, you still on here? What's the story? Woops. Somebody already answered the Symphony X query I just posted about. Sorry for the wasted bandwidth. Jani inquired: > By the way, tell me something about Queensryche's > "Operation:Mindcrime".Is it as good as "Empire" is?I have ordered it > couple of months ago,but still haven't received it... Good to have you back on the list, Jani. In answer: No, it's not as good. It's better. "Operation: Mindcrime" is one of my top ten discs of all time as far as prog music goes. (It's also one of the best concept discs ever, but that's another story). Fantastic melodic twin-guitar attack, a complex and intriguing story, and Geoff Tate at the absolute tip-top of his vocal power. When (and if) it finally arrives, you'll be kicking yourself for overlooking it so long. Dushko inquired: > Also, can someone tell me a name of any Kenny Wayne Shepard album? How > many they have? I just saw video clip on TV and LOVED it! Haven't seen > anyone plays so similar to Stevie Ray Vaughan style! Yes, and that's the main problem most people have with KWS. I think he's extraordinarily talented, meself. The boy does need to find his own voice, though; he does Stevie Ray excellently well, but he doesn't need to copy anyone's tone, as he's good enough to stand on his own. Ah well. He's still young; plenty of time to find his own voice. It took Petrucci a while too. Kenny Wayne Shepherd's latest album is called "Trouble Is". It's worth picking up. I'm in the process of writing a story based on an original Transformer I have recently created. I want to base the story on ACOS, and I need to know how far I can go with it without pissing off the band or their legal friends. This will also effect a plot I have based on Metro Pt 1 (and 2 once its released). In both cases, I would like to quote directly from the lyrics. I will be doing the usual disclaimer (as I need to put one in the story to keep from pissing off Hasbro). Is any of this going to be a problem? Mike? Derek? I'm going to take it by the lack of responce to my post that this is OK. ~BC, the only Webtv Ytsejammer "The smoke is rising the vision's getting clearer and words become a song in the dreamtime!" ~Ayreon email_address_removed email_address_removed email_address_removed ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Aug 1998 10:47:56 -0600 From: "KorgX3" To: Subject: Some Enchanted Evening... My cousin and I were just hanging out the other day, and we started to wonder about big name bands that had a big impact on how music is today. And we came to the startling conclusion that most of them were British. If you have any insight, or you think I'm crazy, please let me know. But here's what we came up with. The Beatles Pink Floyd Led Zeppelin Genesis Yes Rolling Stones Rush (Canadian) AC/DC (Australian) Elton John Deep Purple As for the American influences, we couldn't really come up with any big ones that were before the British ones. Elvis (The whole pop thing) Michael Jackson (pop thing again) Van Halen (possibly infulenced by Zeppelin, or another British band?) Maybe I just can't think of any, but every time I do, it usually stems back to a British band. Any thoughts on this?
